It is about the money and not competition fairness.

Oh, I understand that. Sadly a good many fans think it "proves" who is better because they won the last game and it has a special name.
Having teams like 2001 LSU or 2012 Wisconsin as conference champs diminishes the regular season, there is no getting around that.

It happened in the SEC in 2001. A 8-3 LSU, IN A REMATCH, knocked Tennnessee out of the national title game.
two teams from different divisions that happen to get a rematch is way different that guaranteeing a rematch in a title game every single year.
When you play every team in your conference there is literally no legitimate reason to have a conference title game.

agree.
This is either about (1) money, pure and simple; or (2) some sort of initial strategy to get ahead of the curve IF (and that's a big IF) the Big12 ever goes to 16 and wants to do some sort of pods/semifinals/CCG thing. That's all I can think of.

It's got to be a money grab, because if they go to 12, 14 or 16, they can have a CCG.
Just Add FSU and Clemson and put the ACC out of its misery already

While I don't necessarily agree with it either, there has been a lot of stupid in this thread.
CFB is all about money and this is yet another thing that supports that.

I don't see why they shouldn't have a CCG if they want one. Do I think it's retarded? Yes, but it should be up to them.

NCAA rules say you need 12 teams.

I dont see whyt he NCAA should change their rules on the amount of teams needed for a CCG out of nowhere.
Hell, Big 12 brass had been bragging the last couple of year about how it was better that they didn't have a CCG b/c they were worried a BCS title contender could get knocked out in an upset.

This is 100% only about money. The Big12 won't expand because their TV partners have told them they would not be able to get equivalent value for their teams to keep their current per team value from decreasing.
Since they can't do that, in order to keep up with other conferences, they want to add other revenue streams:
1.) Champions Bowl
2.) Affiliate Scheduling
3.) Conference Championship Game
I think as has been stated previously, they should not be allowed to schedule games on championship weekend. That being said, championship weekend games will not be disallowed as the ability to schedule games on that weekend factored into their TV contracts.

I'd say its 80% about money. It's 20% about their champion getting screwed out of the national title game two straight years because of a perceived lack of quality wins. KSU and Okie St both could've used a CG to improve their resume and win the beauty pageant of voting in the polls.

Yes on 12. 14 is a tough number but yes there too. With 16 and 4 pods, however, what if you want to do a conference semifinal game between 2 pod winners (so 8 teams between the two)? The waiver on a "championship game with less than 12" might apply to that situation as well.

They shouldn't have lost, bottom line. When you lose (especially games you should have won like OkieState vs. Iowa State) you run the risk of getting "screwed" because of the beauty contest system we have. Not sure the 4 team playoff will help that. Sucks for them but I don't really feel sorry for KSU or OSU.

They shouldn't have lost,
OSU had the clearly better resume in 2011 and I think that was the closest margin between the #2 and #3 teams in BCS history, so maybe an extra game against KSU would have helped.
Yeah, they should not have lost to Iowa State, but maybe the team that got in over them should have won their division and beaten more than 3 FBS teams with a winning record.

The SEC and B1G will probably get to 16 first and I really don't see them going to a Conference semi final, CCG and then a 4 team playoff game.

According to alot of interviews with coaches this year, there are alot of coaches that agree with you. They were all against it because thats a week of recruiting yoir coaches lose because they have to practice all week.

I agree. Just throwing stuff out there to make sense of what appears to be a strange request on its face.

"they shouldn't have lost" is how we keep getting crappier and crappier schedules. But I digress. The issue here is that the Big 12 champion has lost an arbitrary beauty contest in two straight years to another one loss team. A CG would help them avoid that scenario. It wouldn't solve it, but it would help.
