theaters that serve meals, alcohol, etc
For people that have been to these (I Have not), ever had any trouble with someone being hammered?
I have only been a few times but that didn't seem to be an issue. Its not like its a bar where you have a bar tender right there to order shots from.
I guess its conceivable but the booze is not cheap.

Seems like a lot of people already dislike theaters due to the crowd
This suggests the theaters aren't in danger of becoming obsolete any time soon. There is a ton of money to be made and if the crowds are still showing up, then there is no incentive to make movies available for home viewing until the the movie's theater run has come and gone.

sounds like a Yogi Berra comment, that place is so crowded, nobody goes there anymore
As someone else mentioned, those that perfer to watch at home and bit torrent or what ever, are already there, a lot of people go to the movies to get out of the house. Rental stores were the first home video option, now there are other options that are better, that's why those are going away.

I go to E Street Cinema a lot, it shows Indie movies, usually have a couple sapporos or stellas during a movie. It's my favorite place to go, everyone stays quiet

I think there will always be a market for movies on the big screen.
True. However, there has to be something that either keeps the riff raff out or brings back the sacredness of seeing a movie in a theatre. Right now, the way theaters have turned into the equivalent of how airlines treat passengers, I don't have much of a desire to be squeezed into an auditorium with hoodlums, hooligans, noisemakers and assholes.
i'm in the AJF group, I can wait till it comes to on demand and watch it at home, I miss out on the relevence from seeing it when it comes out, but I'm old enough to not care about the pop culture conversations at work, that's what I have TD.com for.

I think there's a growing trend of movie theaters that don't admit kids (under 18). This greatly alleviates the problem.

These people complaining probably go to movies on weekend nights at 8 on one of the first weekends of a movie opening. There are numerous ways around that. Weeknights pretty much kill all of the annoying shite. Waiting a while to see a movie does as well. Going to afternoon showings works. These are all obvious but I feel like people still don't do it.
Agreed. That's what I do.

My cable provider already offers some movies on demand that are available the same day as theaters. Some movies even before theaters. Double the price of course.

I'm just wondering when theaters will have blu ray quality

get bypassed by some form of electronic means to view a new film at home?
This has been an argument from the days of the VCR. People will still want to get out and go to the movies.

People still want to take a date out for dinner and a movie. You'll want to get the kids out of the house and go to a theater. Teenagers want to get out to see and be seen.
They may at some point decline but they're starting to change formats too. Alamo Draft house, Movie Studio Grill, etc.

The alcohol is definitely not cheap. Plus the clientele at places like this are not the type to get hammered and be obnoxious during a movie. The ones I've been to also stop serving when the money starts. So you would have to leave the movie, walk to the bar, and then come back. It just doesn't happen. Worst experience I've had at a place like this was a gay dude singing songs during les mis.

Don't go on opening weekend and you can avoid a lot of trash.

Not any time soon but as TV tech improves theater tech will also need to improve to keep attracting audiences.
