Not as a freshman.
Not as a sophomore
Not as a junior or senior, either.
Faulk's my #2, though.

Tough to go against Hilliard, but Ben Wilkerson came in as a true freshman and started at center for the 2003 team. He would have been a certain first-rounder had he not torn his patella tendon in a blowout win against Vandy with only seconds left on the clock.
Wilkerson was a junior in 2003.
My vote goes to the three main ones mentions before- Kevin Faulk, Dalton Hilliard, TM7. Hard to distinguish between those three.
Honorable mentions go to Michael Clayton and Laron Landry.

Neither played as true freshmen.

I played against Dalton in HS and he was impossible to tackle. Those suggesting Cecil were too young to remember Dalton.

LSU went 7-4-1 in Faulk's freshman season. Hilliards freshman year LSU was 8-3-1

The Legend of Cecil Collins is much greater than anything. Much of it of the "what if" variety because he was an amazing talent that never was fufilled. He had some amazing moments and a a couple of spectacular games. However, as was mentioned above. HE DID NOT PLAY AS A TRUE FRESHMAN

I would assume you are too young to remember Hilliard. While you can argue for Faulk and can certainly argue he had a better overall career. As a freshman, Hilliard had more yards and way more TDs. So to say it is not close in favor of Faulk is just ignoring Hilliard.
