How about the movie Cube
Every scifi nerd worships this movie like it's great but it's such a mediocre film with a bland plot.

Why compare Nolan to a director who himself was overrated?
Stanley Kubrick overated???
The Killing, Paths of Glory, Dr Strangelove, 2001, The Shining, Clockwork Orange are all incredible masterpieces that influenced countless movies to come. Notice every one of these movies are of different genres, Kubrick had more diversity in his direction than anyone. Sparticus, Full Metal Jacket and Barry Lyndon are all great as well. Eyes Wide Shut and Lolita are good too. I have never seen Killers Kiss, Day of the Flight, Flying padre, fear and desire, or the Seafarers (his first five movies actually). I'm more than sure none of those will be bad films even though he was in his 20s when he directed them.....So yeah, I couldnt disagree more. He is one of the best three American born directors of all time, top 5 at the very least. Don't see how he can be called overated.

If this movie was released today, it would be panned. The characters suck (Snow White is incredibly stupid, the Dwarves are literally caricatures, and the Queen is the most overrated villain ever), the plot sucks, the songs may be the worst of all the classic Disney films (and this goes for Hi Ho! too), and the two love interests barely say one word to each other before deciding they're in love. Granted Enchanted did a nice little parody on how fricking ridiculous this whole thing is, and it was definitely a landmark and one of the most influential films ever, but does that make it a great movie? No.
Well, shite. I guess you're right. It sucked. And imagine those dumbasses and their hand drawn animation.

Anyone who calls Kubrick overrated is clueless. The man was a genius

My most recent entry in this category is Beasts of the Southern Wild. I have no idea why there is so much love for this movie outside of southern Louisiana. I believe that many people say they liked this movie because they feel obligated to do so and to criticize the movie would mean you are an inferior movie goer who doesn't "get it". Too many people recycle the same phrases like "stunning imagery" when describing this movie.
My wife and I see many smaller release "indie" movies so it's not like I need explosions or 3D to stay entertained. I got to pick the movie on the night we saw this movie and I was cringing through the movie because I hated it and I knew my wife was hating it too.
People talk about the wonderful acting, especially the five year old girl. However, most of her lines were delivered in a loud, monotone voice. "Hushpuppy! Where you at girl?" "HERE I AM DADDY. AIN'T NO CRYIN IN DA FISHBOWL DADDY".
If this movie wins anything at the Academy Awards, it will be a Shakespeare In Love-level travesty.
Just my opinion.

Tell me Rocky, why don't you think he's overrated?
I have tons of boring and pretentious movies of his that say he is.

Also Fight Club. Book was a lot better and I thought the book was ehh.
This is the example I always use when people ask for movies that were better than the book. The book was definitely ehh. I am a Chuck Palahniuk fan too.

Okay, 7 pages and this one isn't mentioned, probably because it is too gay for any of you to watch:
Chicago
seriously, Richard Gere is a song and dance man? Best Picture?
I took my mom to it when I was visiting, explains how I saw it.
I felt bad about mentioning it but then I saw somebody else actually sat through "Precious".

I don't really despise it, but I find The Untouchables very, very overrated. It really isn't that good.

Gone with the Wind
Saving Private Ryan
American Beauty
Scarface
Annie Hall
Royal Tennenbaums
There Will Be Blood
Sheesh. Learn what critically acclaimed means. Let's stop playing in the kiddie pool and start aiming for big targets, like those who say they hate The Godfather. That's doing it right.
Avatar is not critically acclaimed.

One of these is not like the other and someone obviously wanted to take one of their famous digs at Wes Anderson

Wasn't avatar nominated for best picture? I'd call that critically acclaimed
