quote:I did/do despise it. When I got it from Blockbuster and started watching, I was anticipating a really entertaining movie. What I saw was twisted, cynical and violent. I turned it off and returned the video to Blockbuster unfinished. I think it's a sad statement on broken values.
Pulp Fiction.
Edit: I guess I don't "despise" it. But I just don't see why it is regarded as highly as it is. It's just a stupid movie.
At the same time, that's my taste. If you liked it, I don't despise you for liking it. I just didn't, don't, and won't. That's all.

I would challenge any Nolan haters to name five active directors better than him.
In my opinion: PT Anderson, Scorsese, Fincher, Spielberg (historically better, not so much lately), Tarantino (?), Eastwood (maybe?). . . I mean, Nolan is one of the best directors of our time. I don't see how anyone could argue against that.

Pulp Fiction, Dancing with Wolves (and Avatar), Shawshank, Moulin Rouge, anything done by Woody Allen outside of Banannas and EYWTKASBWATA, Gladiator, Kill Bills, Napoleon Dynamite, Lost in Translation, and Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon.

Do you know what "despise" means?
No. Enlighten me, please. I answered the question the way I felt like answering it.

Movies that you hate. That you would be quite happy if they were removed from the face of the Earth.

There's a lot of overrated movies and crappy movies out there. But to despise a movie is something special, to be reserved for only the worst of the worst. The movie you would walk out on, tell all your friends not to see, and curse to yourself every time you think of it. Like the Notebook.
And Mona Lisa Smile. Both those movies literally ruined dates.

Holy crap! I can't believe I forgot about this one. Forget The Hurt Locker. One movie I absolutely DESPISED that was critically acclaimed would have to be Bridesmaids. I *hated* that movie. I have no idea what the critics saw. Was it the female aspect? Was it…hell…I don't even know. One of the worst two hours of my life. Kristen Wiig is one of the most overrated actresses/comedians on the planet today.

alright. alright. I do dislike Casblanca, but I don't technically despise it. I'll think of something more fitting.

This.
It has a really shitty story. I don't care if it looks awesome in 3D.

I'm about to catch some heat but on well.
Not acclaimed by any means because if you look at the reviews for it critics agree with me. It wasn't until after it was out of theaters that people went nucking futs for it.
Boondock Saints.
Also Fight Club. Book was a lot better and I thought the book was ehh.
Oh and anything done by James Cameron after True Lies.

Monster's Ball
The Blair Witch Project
Cold Mountain
There's Something About Mary
Mystic River
All of those were good movies although not necessarily great. Blair Witch gets a pass for sheer balls.

A true piece of shite in terms of script, but has about twenty minutes of visual "wow" after which my head hurt and I was ready to GTFO.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarves
The original Disney animated version was the shite.

If this movie was released today, it would be panned. The characters suck (Snow White is incredibly stupid, the Dwarves are literally caricatures, and the Queen is the most overrated villain ever), the plot sucks, the songs may be the worst of all the classic Disney films (and this goes for Hi Ho! too), and the two love interests barely say one word to each other before deciding they're in love. Granted Enchanted did a nice little parody on how fricking ridiculous this whole thing is, and it was definitely a landmark and one of the most influential films ever, but does that make it a great movie? No.
