Drugs and music

So when I was younger, I thought the ultimate thing to do was to take drugs (LSD) and listen to music. I felt like I transcended and really got the music, especially psychedelic stuff.
As I have grown older, I have discovered that drugs no longer make music substantially better. Sure, a little cannabis at a concert is going to make it better. And if I am taking any substance of note, I want music on and I am picky about it.
In the end, the music has become the drug. I get a high off experiencing the music.....and the drugs just don't really enhance the experience.
So what say you? What are your thoughts on drugs and music.

There's a time and place for everything.
Nothing can beat a 4th of July on the river with a case of Budwesier, some shrooms, an eight-ball, and a playlist consisting of Allman Brothers Band, Phish, Little Feat, and Jimi Hendrix.

Depends on the show. I'm in my zone at any show with a few beers and some ganj. However, if it's a show I am really amped for cid still dussit for me.

The only way I am taking psychedelics at a show now is if it is at a festival where you camp out

I've had people pass me joints at shows many times and I always refused. Beer just makes me need to piss. I always seem to have a good time with whiskey though.

Last time i took acid at a show, phish's lemon wheel, it took awhile to get comfortable in my trip and i didnt enjoy the music at all. Havent taken anything too crazy at a show since. Just burn now.

Nah, it was the 1st set one of the days, dont remember which. That ambient set was the shite though. People were literally laying down and just chillin and falling asleep.

I used to think that dropping acid or a little pot opened your mind to music but when I quit just because and listened to music with my friends who still did drugs they just seemed like idiots to me.
The music is still good, I just dont think I am listening to the voice of god while listening to My Morning Jacket. It annoys me now when potheads wont shut up about "omg do you hear that is like sooo perfect Jerry Garcia just gets me you know"

That American Dad episode about this is fricking hilarious

Agreed, used to think the weeds made the music sound better and thought I could hear different parts of the songs. Can't do it anymore, but music is just as good and can always take me to another place.
Will never forget toking and starting Kid A though...

While I do not partake in illegal drugs anymore, some of my favorite memories is riding down the levee through New Roads to St. Francisville back to BR while blowing down. Some Marshall Tucker Band, live Stevie Ray, Bob Segar, CCR, Van Morrison, Sublime...good times.

There was a time when I listen to techno music, I blame drugs for that dumb shite.
I've never been into techno. The scene really turns me off. I feel like noone would listen to that shite if they didn't do drugs.
At least at Phish and Grateful Dead shows they have dedicated groups to sobriety (The Phellowship, I forgot the Dead's version). You aren't going to see anything like that at a techno show.

Wharf Rats, I believe.
I am with you, as far as tripping in a camp setting - though certainly not at something as large as 'roo. I'm partial to psy/trance festivals, but some of the folks are a little too wookie for even my taste.
