A three year starter for LSU, LSU hall of fame, and started for the Miami Dolphins in Super Bowl 17. Why does no one ever talk about this guy?

He gets brought up here in various threads. Some praising him, some lamenting the tragedy. He was a great Tiger. RIP

if you saw Woodley he would be the last guy on the planet you would think started as QB ina super bowl.

he used to hang around LSUS when I was there in the late 90s...a friend of mine (and his) pointed him out to me and it was unbelievable. I heard he had some major health problems and maybe financial issues as well over the years.

both, well, I suppose you could call a liver transplant a major health issue, he was a stud in his day though

Dying from alcoholism would also be a major health issue. He died over 10 years ago

Went to LSU with David and knew several of the guys on the team. He shared time with Steve Eminsinger (spelling) and was a serious dual threat QB with a very good arm. However, David drank too much and was often in Coach Mac's doghouse. It finally caught up with him. Wish him well and may he RIP!!

Who took his place when Shula yanked him in the SB?

No cheating.

someone should update his wiki article:

quote:

In the 1980 season, he set and still holds the Miami Dolphins team record for most pass completions (176) for a rookie QB.

This is very true. He was very talented. He was a great tiger! Fun to watch him play. Always hoped he'd stay in the game longer instead of splitting time.
