Need to know a budget. I have great suggestions for traveling to other countries, but is that something interesting to you and your wife?

We had a trip scheduled to Costa Rica... But had to forfeit our deposit because other "expenditures" have come up... So our revised budget would be around 1,500

Oh, well you're def staying stateside and it would be difficult to put something together on that budget. Not knocking you or anything. I'm guessing you are making more of a long weekend rather than an actaul go somewhere for a week vacation?
Edit: If you don't want to do the beach, I could suggest going to Austin, TX or the hill country. Wimberly is a fine place to go for a few days. You could definitely do plenty on your budget. Google Wimberly

I haven't been to CR, but the rest of my family took a trip there and absolutely loved it. Just start saving now and do that trip next year.

Take out $1500 cash. Drive til you only have $750 left. Then start coming back home.
I always wanted to do that but the Mrs doesn't like riding in vehicles that long.

Go crabbing in Grand Isle for a couple hundred bucks on a weekend. Boil the crabs you caught that night (or buy some if your crabbing expedition turns out like most of mine.) Buy cheap shrimp the next night and boil those. Drink cheap beer the entire time. Funner than it sounds.

Could you keep the plane tickets to Costa Rica and do it cheap? Might be better than loosing all that money

North Arkansas: White River or Buffalo River, camping, fishing, kayak/canoeing. Plenty of small resorts in the area if you don't camp.

Go to Glacier. Or, further north to Banff. Everyone loves Banff.
If you wanna do it right. Start at Yellowstone, then go to Glacier (Montana) and up to Banff and Jasper, and the icefield parkway

i would much rather do things like this than just about anything. vacations turn into a major pain in the arse to me. they probably aren't, but HATE making sure we go do this, see that, etc... just put me somewhere that i don't live, give me access to a body of water and a pit, and i'm a two dick billy goat
ETA: mrs smoke loves to travel. so im fricked

Hit all the tourist traps in Chatanooga, then off to Great Smoky Mountain National Park.
or Colorado. We went river rafting through Royal Gorge a few years back. That vacation kicked arse.
