I also can't believe August came in at 2.
It clearly should have been #1.

who gets a filet at August?

August ...save your money. I've had better filets at Outback. The course meal is kinda cool but not even close to being worth it. Nice wine/bar selection and wait staff is one of the best, but save your money on one August trip and spread it around the other restaurants in the city.
I swear these "lists" are paid off for advertising.
August is generally considered the best or one of the top 3 restaurants in the city. By virtually everyone.
Either you just had extremely shitty luck (it happens even at world-class places) or you have shitty taste.
Every time I have gone it has been nothing short of special.
Go again, don't be a fricking tool and get the filet. Instead do the tasting menu with wine pairings. If you don't like that...I don't know what to tell you.

Agree. I would put August and Stella easily ahead of Commander's.

I'll say, in his defense, that this is one aspect of his point of view that I sort of get.
I certainly wouldn't argue that Commander's culinarily trumps August or Stella, but if we're comparing overall dining experiences (which I think this is about), I can appreciate an argument that puts Commander's over those two.

Just to clear the air... I've been to August 3 times. Filet was suggested by waiter on 2 occasions (once for me, once for wife). Probably the best way to go is the several course "degustation". However, I've never left impressed or happy for that matter, especially after throwing down $300-$400 for two. I'm not saying its a bad restaurant, but I am saying I would much rather spend the money on several different experiences in NOLA.

Routinely overcooks the sweetbreads it's supposed to be known for. I've been disappointed in it everytime I've gone. Why go then? Because the meals are bought for me.
Mr. B's doesn't belong in the top 10 or the top 20 for that matter. You get the BBQ shrimp and that's about it.
Del Porto and Antoine's should be lower.
And, how is it he's got restaurants he rated at 4 stars ranked above those he rated at 5 stars?
