You don't know how to read. I'm pretty sure that's the only explanation available at this point.

What gain?
The benefit of not having to feel the embarrassment of everything that is going on now.
The benefit off all the positive press he was receiving for the dead girlfriend story. It certainly helped his rise to Heisman finalist, but apparently you don't buy it. He saw how this story benefited him and went with it. I don't think he thought it would propel him to get 2nd int he voting, but he know it was helping him greatly.

I don't think anyone in this thread thinks he started this from the beginning.
Keep up, sweetheart.

are you being intentionally obtuse?
he rode that story as a major part of his awards hype.

It was Te'o's lifelong dream to be a Heisman trophy runner-up LOLOLOLOLOL! That's the glaringly obvious gain from all this. Geez KosmoCramer, get a clue! ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/IconLOL.gif)

Imagine if these people/sources are trolling ESPN now.
Either trolling ESPN or Deadspin, because there are two sides to the story each is reporting

it doesn't surprise me anymore. I imagine 90% of TD posters to be of honey boo boo intelligence
I mean, when someone has been proven to be a liar to me, I generally don't give them the benefit of the doubt anymore, at least on that specific topic.
And yet, that's exactly what many people are doing.
Human psychology is fricking interesting. Morons will believe anything I guess.

A&M loses to Alabama and Te'o is holding the Heisman.

You don't think he was embarrassed while lying?

So he went with it because he wanted to be a Heisman runner-up and not because he was embarrassed/scared.

Isn't also a disgrace that he mostly talked about his girlfriends death and not his grandmothers? Seems like he place her about his gram gram. NEVER put the imaginary dead pussy on a pedestal!
quote:
Notre Dame AD Jack Swarbrick said that Manti Te'o was at ESPN's college football awards show, on Dec. 6, when he received a phone call alerting him to the hoax. That was the moment, according to the Notre Dame timeline, that Te'o learned Lennay Kekua wasn't dead, and wasn't real. Here are quotes from Te'o in the days following Dec. 6 in which he makes reference to Kekua.
On Dec. 8, Te'o was interviewed by ESPN's Chris Fowler in New York at the Heisman ceremony.
Fowler: "There were a lot of cameras around you this year, there was so much public sharing of very private moments, which shared moment will you never forget above the others?"
Te'o: "I think I'll never forget the time when I found out that, you know, my girlfriend passed away and the first person to run to my aid was my defensive coordinator, Coach [Bob] Diaco, and you know he said something very profound to me, he said ‘this is where your faith is tested.' Right after that, I ran into the players' lounge and I got on the phone with my parents – and I opened my eyes and my head coach was sitting right there. And so, you know, there are a hundred-plus people on our team and the defensive coordinator and our head coach took time to just go get one [of those players]. You know I think that was the most meaningful to me."

are you dumb?
OF COURSE he didnt want to win 2nd. No f-ing shite Sherlock. It was the get the whole damn thing.
HE told everyone the love of his life died right after his GMa and the press ate it up. Meanwhile HE NEVER SAW HER ONCE. He NEVER went to see her in the hospital as she lay broken from a car wreck and dying from cancer.
Yea, thats EXACTLY what you do with the love of your life. You leave her to rot in LA even as go through the city during summer.
He just loved her SOOOO MUCH.

I think there is a large segment of society that just accepts what the media tells them without any hesitation. Jesus look what happened here, the media just accepted a story at face value with ZERO inquiry as to the validity of what they reported. A true journalist would have thought "they died, the same day huh? What are the odds on that?"

Yes. That compares to the whole nation knowing.

Honestly, you're the biggest fricking moron I've ever come across.
It is simple as shite. Very simple. My kindergarten son could understand it.
He saw the positive press he was receiving from the dead girlfriend angle. Who doesn't like positive press? All the awards, 2nd place in the Heisman, etc came later. It's not like he sat there and said this lie will get my to the Heisman ceremony. He sat there and said, look at all this positive press I'm getting. This is great. I can't tell the truth now because it will all go away.
People can do things for numerous reasons. Doing it to avoid embarrassment and doing it to gain positive press and notoriety are not mutually exclusive.
