Ah, I see. I guess I should have specified: When healthy, they're the best WR group in the league.

What's so funny? I'm serious. Name a team with better WRs than the Packers. I'll wait.

I agree its the Packers. Just look at the injuries that they had at that position this year. Guys like Randall Cobb and James Jones stepped up big time.

Lets say Atlanta had lost Julio or Roddy White for a significant amount of time. I'll bet the Falcons would not have had as much success as Green Bay did at overcoming those injuries.

Tarkenton

Are we going to just dismiss the ridiculous absurdity that is Fran Tarkenton's inclusion on this list? One of the most idiotic things I've ever seen.

Gotta be kidding me.

So he's not a future HOF QB? That's the most shared opinion of him.

Billy Joe Hobert and Billy Joe Tolliver. Legends with way too much hype.

On a serious note - Tarkenton, seriously?

I have a hard time considering Aikman overrated since no one ever includes him in the discussion of greatest QBs.

I don't think people talk up McNair all that much FWIW - he was a great leader and a solid pro QB. He doesn't belong in this thread IMO

Some Stats:

Aikman
61.5 Comp%, 32,942 yds, 165 TDs, 141 ints, 81.6 QBR.

Montana
63.2 Comp%, 40,551 yds, 273 TDs, 139 ints, 92.3 QBR

Marino
59.4 Comp%, 61,361 yds, 420 TDs, 252 ints, 86.4 QBR

And just for shits

Drew Brees
65.6 Comp%, 45,919 yds, 324 TDs, 165 ints, 94.3 QBR

Peyton Manning
65.2 Comp%, 59,487 yds, 436 TDs, 209 ints, 95.7 QBR

Another fun stat is yds/attempt
PM 7.6
DM 7.34
DB 7.46
JM 7.52
TA 6.98

If Peyton has a typical year next year, he should break Marino's total. I understand the game is different, and favors QBs. But both Manning and Brees complete passes a full 6 percentage points better than Marino, while having comparable yds per attempt. Say what you want, but thats pretty impressive.

Steve Young. I never saw him throw a pass over 20 yards.

For that matter, 90% of old West Coast quarterbacks. The system was designed to make mediocre QB's productive...(Read Blood, Sweat, and Chalk by Jaworski if you don't believe me).

I think people put too much emphasis on winning. Trent freaking Dilfer won a Superbowl, so that argument is null and void. Football is the ultimate team game, so if you have a good team you win, if not, you lose. Marino is a classic example of a player who transformed the game and changed the way defenses play (per Nick Saban) but because he never had a solid team around him, he never won a ring.

IMO, # Superbowls is a worthless stat when comparing QB's. Trent Dilfer has a ring, Marino doesnt.

I'm not saying I don't agree with that, but Young won AND had great numbers. Hell, until he won the SB in 95 (?) the big knock on him was that he couldn't win the big game.

And he was great because no other quarterback had ever been successful using Bill Walsh's dink and dunk system throwing to Jerry Rice....oh wait...
