Goodell's motivation to make stuff up is the concussion lawsuit. The reason he prosecuted the Saints in the media was to get people on his side, saying things like what you posted and quoted.

I don't even remember freeh coming out with his findings. I love how the media didn't pick up on it. They really picked up the report he did on Penn State. Granted, the situation at Penn State was MUCH more serious. But still, I expected more coverage on his findings.

God I hope that's sarcasm. I can't believe people actually think like this.

Goodell merely wants to stave off the pending avalanche of money that will flow from the owners pockets soon:
"According to an AP review of 81 lawsuits filed through May 25, the plaintiffs include 2,138 players who say the NFL did not do enough to inform them about the dangers of head injuries. The total number of plaintiffs in those cases is 3,356, which includes players, spouses and other relatives or representatives."
They are doomed to have to pay out some money and i believe Benson agreed to take the fall since his pocket will be hit as well, but it went very wrong.
"The suit also comes on the heels of the most recent death of a former player. On May 2, former San Diego Chargers linebacker Junior Seau shot and killed himself. Seau, 43, had his brain donated to be researched. Former Chicago Bears Super Bowl champion Dave Duerson, who killed himself in a manner similar to Seau in 2011, also donated his brain.
Both Seau and Duerson shot themselves in the chest, and in a note, Duerson said he did so to preserve his brain for doctors to examine."

Penn State is public had to release the report, Saints are private don't have to do shite.

Not an excuse, but I don't think anyone outside of Roger's inner circle would believe the league would lie and spin they way they did. Surely a multibillion dollar entity with the best counsel money could buy would not just make shite up.

ESPN and most other outlets did. So did a bunch of local reporters.
It's not too far fetched, however in this case I'm pretty sure he was being sarcastic.

I was being sarcastic in a sense because it's clear now there is 0 evidence of intent to injure or else the easiest thing the league could have done when tough questions finally started to be asked was to release said evidence to shut up those questioning the league's motives.
I do think many never imagined the league would like as it appears they have. I am just saying that I can understand how the story was taken as truth initially since it is pretty unthinkable that the league would flat out lie like they did.
That said, the job of journalists is to ask questions and they seemed all to eager to not question the evidence out of the gate.

Washington Times, thanks for nothing. Yall are a bunch of sheep that went lock step in jumping to conclusions with Goddell. I wouldn't wipe my arse with your paper if I was stuck in the middle east shitting in a hole and having to use my hand instead.
Welcome to the party, Dr. Goerrbles.

These scumball puppets fueled the witch hunt with their terrible "reporting". They didn't investigate anything, they just swallowed Goofell's gravy. Now they are going the other way. It's all about what sells. They all deserve to get fired.
