quote:my friend Clay "not his real name" is a UT grad and lit up my text message inbox all season long...kept harping on the computer polls that had the Big 12 ranked as the No. 1 conference. There were writers that brought up those same computer rankings too and many Big 12 fans seized on it.
please show me one big 12 fan was in any way trying to "angle" the big 12 as the best conference.
This was particularly strong after West Virginia started out undefeated.

Man just go read any BigXII message board you will find any number of threads stating how the SEC is way overrated and the BigXII is superior most citing the fact that A&M did so well. Just goes to show you 5th in the Sec is better that being co champ of the BigXII

Yeah and the national media tried making the argument too. Greg Doyel, the LA Times, and Stewart Mandel all had had columns bashing the SEC. Not sure any of them actually said the Big 12 was tougher, but the implication was certainly there.

Those would be nice if they were playing in the same conference against similar competition.

as a LSU fan the first thing I noticed was how many of those were in 2000-2002 for LSU
shite, he started teh comparison the year OU won a NC and three years before LSU was rolling (and the comparison was still pretty similar)

luckily kansas was not involved in this bowl mess that i always hear teams talk about. such a blessing to avoid that again.

i only intended to show that our propensity for getting blown out (which i defined as anything equal to or greater than a 21 point loss) is probably about the same as most teams. since this is an LSU message board, i chose LSU as the team to compare OU with.
eta: i need to stop coming off as defensive of OU, because i'm firmly of the opinion that something (although not the head coach) has got to change at OU for us to be in the national championship discussion again.

Solid numbers, and this may just be me, but the schedule is tougher for a SEC team than a BIG 12 team. That was my only issue.

Nah man, it's always good to have an other person's view.

5 of the 7 the coach wasn't Miles.

Big 12 hasn't been relevant since Vince Young's pre-suicidal days

Kind of nice to have my OU neighbor, that is an a-hole, stay in his house.

Ya, I was thinking from 2003 as well and most blowouts are before that.
Plus, my thoughts on the subject wasn't about blowouts by themselves, but blowouts when the teams were considered "even."
Since 2003, there haven't been much of those outside the Bama title loss. 2008 LSU was dreadful and should have gotten their arse beat.
2004 LSU was pretty terrible at QB as well, and should have gotten blown out at UGA.
I noted, maybe falsely, that OU's blowouts have mostly come in games they were considered the favorite or evenly matched. However, I think this could be due to the style of play in the conference, which may allow for scores to get out of hand.

The only thing I will give the Big 12 is that it has parity among most of its teams.
In a sports league it's called "parity"; in government it's called "socialism".

I know Stoops loses some big games, but how many times have them been blown out like that?
