LSU lost 3 games this yr while leading going into the 4th quarter. Last yr LSU WON games in the 4th quarter, and has consistently over the CLM's yrs. When you read in the papers after the first game of the yr that "the game plan was a good one, we just need to execute better & we'll be ok", and you keep reading that after every game, especially after this last game of the yr, it's obvious that either these players are not coachable or else the staff has issues. It's certainly not from a lack of talent on the players' part.

What Cauble says has a lot of truth in it, especially considering how disjointed the play calling has seemed ever since Crowton showed up. The offensive gameplan needs a lot of improvement.

HOWEVER...

The "trick play is a play action pass" on the late 2nd & 2 in fact fooled the defensive coordinator who called us out on our lack of imagination. Complete that pass, and we win.

Talent will get LSU far but we need coaching to make the next step and not to get embarrassed.

That's true, but it doesn't change the fact that both the O and D failed LSU in the 4th beginning with the 1st drive of the 4th.

Once again, I'm not saying the offense didn't/hasn't struggled or hasn't been a disappointment.

I can see the struggles on O and note what's been going on with our pass D beginning with the last Bama drive and continued till the last quarter/series/drive of the bowl game at the same time.

The problem is mostly system and style. Poor execution can be read into any play that gets sniffed out.

If you have 5 years of piss poor execution, then your offensive staff should be fired since they are incapable of getting better execution from our highly recruited, exceptional athletes.

One of the problems is that, on a big stage, LSU plays scared (schematically) when it gets the lead.

We get so conservative that everyone in the stadium knows what is going to be run.

We need a complete fricking overhaul of offensive scheme and identity. This shite isn't working, and it isn't going to.

Blindly?

I don't think so.

I've been pretty disappointed with the QB play/passing O overall.

That doesn't blind me to the overall excellence of LSU football under LM.

I'll back a guy who leads the SEC/BCS in wins since 05, who is winning at an 85% clip since 2010 while competing in the best football conference in college football, who put me in the BCSCG 2 yrs out of 8, and on and on.

All of the above is really not very hard to defend, struggles on O or not.

I've never said the man was perfect or doesn't make me pull my hair out.

Re the comment "we get so conservative.............". Have you watched a Saban coached team over the yrs? He lost more than one game while at LSU going conservative once he had the lead. The point being, it's almost natural for any coach to slow it down in those situations, unless it's early in the game. And when you consider the QB's that LSU has had under CLM..and yes, I agree it is his fault...LSU almost has to play conservative with the lead. It was not a coincidence that CLM took the pass out of Mett's hands after his rough start to this season.

Looks like LSU had another late season conditioning issue. It's happened every year but last.

Most teams do to some extent and it isn't out of the ordinary but depth was probably more of an issue this year than last.

Yet, ironically, Miles is getting killed for playing it risky on the final drive and not just running the ball and forcing Clemson to use its timeouts. Say what you will about the final possession... it was NOT conservative.

The last drive was typical Les Miles. He had 2nd and 2 and had been running the ball as usual up to that point, why the need to suddenly pass is what always leaves a person(fan) scratching your damn head. Tell the Oline buckle down along with big Copeland and give it to Hill to get that first down. Having Mettenberg rollout and all that crap is not needed. But this is what makes you scream at the TV. All during the game he played Les Miles football trying to pound it out and wear down Clemson's DLine when he should have spread them out with the pass to set up the run and gouged them greatly with Hill up the gut. He nevers does that though, it's typical Les Mile ball and opposing DC's know what's comin, then when the game is on the line at the end it is really easy for them to shut down LSU.

Can't disagree with any of that. You say those offensive ranks and people say it's a lack of execution. Well 5 years of "lack of execution" is a major coaching problem.

Tepper's "4 year" excuses comes to mind.
