What Caused the Gamecube to Flop?

This is the one Nintendo console I own that I have no interest in playing anymore. Was it due to game catalogs? The controller? Graphics? I personally didn't care for the games. Most of the ones I have for it weren't even Nintendo exclusive. The fact that the Zelda game was in crappy stylized animation didn't help matters.

Re:0 and the REmake were awesome games though. But yeah, other than those I lost interest in mine pretty fast, it's rotting in a shelf somewhere.

MGS: Twin Snakes was really good too
RE4 was exclusive on the cube for awhile. Eternal Darkness is probably my favorite horror type game ever. So original.
The console had some really good games on it, but the issue was they were so few and far between. Xbox and PS2 had way more games on them, it was ridiculous. 3rd party support started becoming horrible for Nintendo, if it wasn't already.
The only reason the wii did better is because Nintendo was the first to implement motion controls.

I think it was a little bit of all of these.

Gamecube was more powerful than the PS2....
Also, it only sold a small amount less than the Xbox worldwide. PS2 had something crazy like 65-70% marketshare last generation.

Super Mario Sunshine had to be the worst Mario game too. I will admit Luigi's Mansion was fun. I look forward to the sequel.

The Star Wars Rebel Alliance flight games were great along with Metroid Prime 1 & 2.

So because you don't wan't to play it anymore, it's a flop? I still play mine, so in my head, GREATEST CONSOLE EVER!!!
ETA I think what this thread will eventually show you is that there were a ton of great games on this system and everyone needs to get over this Nintendo hate.

I enjoyed a few games on the GC. Luigi's Mansion was awesome. I liked the Star Wars games too that someone mentioned. Don't forget Super Smash Bros

I disagree. I loved and played the shite out of some Super Mario Sunshine. It and WindWaker were probably my favorite 2 Gamecube games. Luigi's Mansion is 3rd.

I think of the lack of DVD playback at the boom of the DVD era really hurt.
Remember at the time, a 299 dollar PS2 was still one of the cheapest quality DVD players you could get.

It only played Gamecube games, had an ugly design and weird controller. There was no online play outside of a few Phantasy Star games. I still had way more fun playing it than I did my Xbox.

You must not have been a halo fan.

LOVED that game. Mario Golf was a lot of fun as well.

What were they thinking when they made the controller?

I have to love Nintendo's controller designs. I didn't have any problems when I would play the N64 at someone's place when I was a kid but when I tried again in college I couldn't use that controller for shite.

Super Mario Sunshine could have been a fantastic game with a little more polish. It was still very fun.

Wind Waker is my favorite non-OoT Zelda game. It was just fun as hell.

Regardless of what you think both Zelda games were great. Look past the cel shading ( which was still very pretty) and it was an excellent Zelda game.
