ESPN has suspended commentator Rob Parker for 30 days for comments he made about Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III during a Dec. 13 episode of "First Take". Parker The suspension comes one day after Parker issued an apology on his Twitter account. On the show, he was discussing Griffin's answer to a question about his role as an African-American quarterback and questioned Griffin's "blackness," citing that the player has a white fiancee and is rumored to be Republican as among his reasons.
Among his comments, Parker, who is black, said: "Is he a brother or a cornball brother?" In his apology, Parker said he reached out to Griffin's agent with the hope of apologizing to Griffin directly. "I blew it and I'm sincerely sorry," Parker posted on Twitter. "I completely understand how the issue of race in sports is a sensitive one and needs to be handled with great care." ESPN issued a statement announcing the suspension. "Our review of the preparation for the show and the re-air has established that mistakes both in judgment and communication were made," said Marcia Keegan, vice president of production for ESPN who oversees "First Take".
"As a direct result, clearly inappropriate content was aired and then re-aired without editing. Both were errors on our part. To address this, we have enhanced the editorial oversight of the show and have taken appropriate disciplinary measures with the personnel responsible for these failures. "We will continue to discuss important issues in sports on First Take, including race. Debate is an integral part of sports and we will continue to engage in it on First Take. However, we believe what we have learned here and the steps we have taken will help us do all that better."

Piece of crap should be fired. Hate to state the obvious but if this was a reverse situation.. ie if Rob Parker was white, he would be fired, gone, terminated.

This makes me question if they actually know what sports are.

so it's ok to have black on black crime at ESPN, but any white comments about black athletes get you permabanned.

Meanwhile, in his comfy home, Stephen A. Smith leans back in his reclining chair and begins to laugh histerically!

That's some BS. Rush gets fired and this joke of an employee gets to keep his job.

So this Marcia Keegan chick oversees First Take and states ESPN has "taken appropriate disciplinary measures with the personnel responsible for these failures."
Did she have no authority to stop the re-airing of that show or is she punishing herself?

Limbaugh said McNabb was overrated by the media because he's black.
Parker said RG3 is a cornball brother.
Not the same.
I do agree that Parker should be punished more. But Limbaugh simply could have said McNabb was overrated and left it at that....
Parker had questions if RG3 was a Tiger Woods type who didnt identify with black culture
(understand there is a difference here...Arthur Ashe was educated, well spoken as well..but stood for many African American rights...Parker had concerns about RG3 not identifying himself as an African American enough. Parker just came off as an idiot in articulating his point. Not that I agree or think he's even right. Cause he wasnt. But after looking over the vid enough times he was articulating his point horribly.)
frick it they both should have been fired.

Can you imagine the outrage if Mike and Mike criticized a white athlete for marrying a black woman. WOW

Based on ESPN's past terminations, Parker should have been immediately fired
