Guitar gurus-advise on add-ons

Girlfriend has this guitar from last year.
It's an Ibanez acoustic, but it has plugs on the bottom. I was thinking of getting her an amp so she could start learning how to play (yes, it's just sat there for a year).
Is there a special amp for this? What other add-ons should I be looking at? Cord, picks etc?
Thanks for any help on this.

She doesn't need an amp to learn how to play an acoustic. Just get her some picks and new strings.

An acoustic plugged straight into an electric guitar amp sounds like shite you'll need to get an amp made specifically for acoustic guitars or you could go the cheaper route and get her a keyboard amp.
As far as strings go with 11 gauge elixirs

Cant go wrong with an ACOG, laser sight, and vertical foregrip.
ETA: sorry thought this was another AR thread.

These have got to be the top selling acoustic strings at this point.

Chord book, tuner, picks, maybe buy her some lessons.

Sounds like you are wrong. We just started dating in April. Her parents gave it to her last Christmas and she's been wanting to learn. I'm just helping her get everything she'd need.

what she needs is to sit down and play the damn thing til her fingers bleed....internet is awesome..youtube for tips and free lessons....restring it with the aforementioned elixirs....she can put a tuning app on her phone...
no amp necessary...

Maybe get her the strings and a strap-on which she can use to play the guitar standing up

Sounds like this thing is just wall art at this point. Get a hanging stand for her. It will brighten up the kitchen for her.

For a girl? Christ dude, it would be like fretting telephone cables, even to me, and I've been playing since 1987.
For a beginner, I'd go as light as possible. I use 9.5s on all my axes, but on my acoustic (Alvarez), straight 10s for EAD, nylon for GBE.
Sure the 11s have a much better tone, but for non-calloused fingers, the smaller the better I say.
If you really want to help her learn, forget about the amps. I recommend:
1)get her the picks (a range of different sizes, let her see which works best) I've never used anything but Duncan Tortex (orange) but it's all about feel.
2)get her a tuner, and make sure she learns to tune on her own. Every time she plays, re-tune. It's impossible to learn on an out of tune guitar.
3)Guitar Pro software or equivalent. (I'm not big on the latest version, v 5.0 was the best...to bad it's gone.
If this was around when I was learning...wow.
Reading tab is very easy, and there are tons of sites with every song of every genre you could imagine to download from, especially at ultimate-guitar.com
The fun part is figuring out which ones are correct, or even close

If she hasn't starting playing it yet, she probably won't now. But elixir strings, some thin picks, and some lessions would be a great start.
