Staying in Lafayette for a couple of days. Not going to Prejeans. Where do I need to eat?

Abbeville. Shucks or Dupuy's. If you want fancy, go to Mazen.

Crawfish étouffée and a side of fried catfish filet at Poches in Breaux Bridge is worth the short drive

Riverside Inn isn't a bad option.

Poor Boy's Riverside Inn in Broussard. Hop, skip and a jump from Laffy as in minutes.

How is the Original Mulate's on the Breaux Bridge Highway? I haven't been there in a ton of years. Ms. Goldie still ran day to day that's how long it's been. Anyway I used to love that place and the food was the best. Not making a recommendation. Just curious about an old stomping ground.

I've honestly never eaten there, mostly because I've only heard bad things

Bon Temps Grill on Verot. Charley G's on Ambassador. La Pagua (Mexican) on Johnston. Olde Tyme Grocery on St. Mary for Poboys. Masala (Indian) on Kalise Saloom. Pho Saigon (Vietnamese) on Ambassador. Pamplona (Spanish Tapas) on Jefferson Downtown. Poor Boy Riverside Inn in Broussard. Soop's in Maurice. Pimon Thai on Johnston. French Press for Brunch on Vermilion. Jolie's on Pinhook. Legends on Johnston for a Burger.
You can't go wrong with any of these.

I almost went last week but was in the mood for oysters and apparently they don't serve them.

It's really good food. The drink menu is ok but extremely overpriced. It's like $5 for a Canebrake and Abita.
I've been twice since they opened. First time I got the Shrimp poboy which had a spicy mayo on it. Really really good. Not a traditional poboy. My girlfriend got the Oyster poboy which was above average to me but I had the shrimp so I might have been biased. At the end of meal, the waitress gave us a free appetizer coupon for our next visit.
Second time we went I got the crawfish etoufee pot pie. It was huge and really good. Real flakey crust on the pot pie. Girlfriend got the fish tacos. The tacos had great flavor but were soggy due to the mango salsa. I would get them again but ask for the salsa on the side. For appetizer, we got the chips and mango salsa which was pretty good.

The original Mulates was sold a few years ago. It has a new name now (can't recall it), and I don't know anything about the food or atmosphere now.
