May have to check it out one day if you are at the range or something. I need to take a break on buying things right now though. Buying all the parts seemed like a lot of mail deliveries to the house. Did not look good to the wife. I still need to order bulk ammo as well, so if I get the pissed off look, I rather it be for ammo.
Never ends

i know someone has posted some stuff on one of these pages, but can someone post what special tools are required or will make the assembly of a lower parts kit easier?

Minimum requirement i would say would be channel locks, whatever fits your pistol grip screw (usually flathead screw driver but sometimes allen head), and the largest allen that will slide through the takedown pivot hole.
As far as least chance to scratch your receiver (all obtainable from Brownell's):
- roll pin holder set
- Grace roll pin punch set
- lower receiver vise block

Theres a link a few pages back, I think Carson should edit the OP and include the link to the kit in it to make it easier to find.
If you just search for "AR assembly tool kit" you should find it though.

I only used a hammer, flat screw driver (pistol grip screw), cheap castlenut wrench, and electrical tape to prevent scratches

Here's a good video along the lines of using channel locks. Just make sure you tape up everything well. I didn't use a vise at all for mine, but you could use a mag as he does to hold it. However you would still need the vise block to torque your castle nut on the buffer tube when you get to that part.

Building a lower is one of those things that can be accomplished in a number of ways, you don't technically need any specific tools. That kit will certainly help, but I also really like the roll pin holders now that I've used them quite a bit. So i would maybe add those as well.

gotcha, yeah definitley getting roll pin holders
when I was reading about assembly I remember them mentioning something about one pin with a spring that is a pain in the arse and can shoot out across the room.
is there a tool that will make that pin easier to install?

That's the front takedown pivot spring and detent. Forward to 3:58 in that video for a pretty easy way to not frick it up. I use that method, but I just push the detent in with my finger nail and hold it while sliding the allen wrench over it. Have never had the need to use the needlenose and pick as he does. I recommend setting up a grocery bag, pillow, or something in front of it though to catch the detent in case it does fly out.
