I thought he was a better player than shaq. Better moves, better shot. He just got fat and lazy.

He had more of a touch on the ball than Shaq ever did, but that was about the only thing he possibly had on him.
It's scary to think how good a team Dale could have had, if he could have gotten the best out of him, Shaq, and CJ, at the same time, and gotten the three to play together even just somewhat cohesively as a unit.

I think a big part of this problem was not being eligible his freshman year. jmo

Shaq making FT's might have helped, too.
That team with all that talent underachieved.
Vernel Singleton was no slouch, either.

Good for him...
I remember watching him play in the highschool state championship game in SC. Dude was a beast. Not the greatest work ethic but dang was he huge and smooth.

Had a few classes with him, was a really nice down to earth guy. He knew he made some mistakes in the past and was willing to put in the work to improve his life. Always was in class taking notes and asking questions too, which is more than I can say for myself
Really happy for him

If you read Shaqs book he pretty much says the same thing

Shaq also said that DD tried everything he could to get SR to go to class, even to the extent of waiting for him in his room at nite to make sure he got to bed in time.Shaq said that SR would simply wait for DD to leave & then head back out the door. Shaq said many times he would be leaving for class & SR would just be walking in the door. Enjoyed the Gold Club to the max. But as for that team "underachieving": who was the coach??? DD had one of the potentially best teams in Tiger history & never won the confererence, let alone doing anything in the NCAA's. He had the national player of the yr, 4 yrs, with both Shaq & Chris & never won the league, at a time when UK was weak. Ga. & Vandy were winning it in that period.

Roberts was always a much more polished offensive player than Shaq. I remember watching an NBA game in '93(?) on TNT when Roberts was with the Clippers. It happened to be a game when Roberts was on the top of his game and really going at it. The announcer (Hubie Brown?) couldn't believe Roberts' play saying how much "he really liked this kid" and what a force he was. I always liked Roberts and hope the best for him.

Nah. He could have been better than he was, sure, but he was never nearly as athletic as Shaq.
Disagree. SR had mad offensive skills that Shaq never developed. Great touch, could handle the rock, and was more agile. If he had Shaq's heart he would have been HOF material.

SR had some good stories on mosconas show recenly about the first practice in the Dungeon when Shaq showed up.. one would back the other down and dunk, the other would do the same, and it got really heated
said people from everywhere ran over to see it when they heard about what was going on
