the lives of old country singers vs. the new breed around today

OLD:
-Merle Haggard attempted to rob a bank in 1957 and was sent to San Quenton for 3 years.
-Johnny Paycheck was sentenced to 7 years in prison for shooting a man in the head with a .22 pistol
-Barry Sadler was wounded by a pungi stick in Nam, returned to the U.S. and shot a rival country singer in the head and killed him in a dispute over a girl. Sadler was eventually shot in the head and killed while sitting in a cab in Guatemala City.
NEW:
-Kenny Chesney owns a 60' Sea Ray yacht and also has a home in the U.S. Virgin Islands. He spends time in the Caribbean and includes island-themed songs in some of his work, such as those on his 2005 album Be As You Are.
-Tim McGraw stated he has never been in a fight in his life and splits his time between mansions with his beautiful wife and children.
Is there little doubt why country music is no longer gritty and real? I am not advocating going to prison or shooting people but it is rather obvious that the old guys were hard drinking maniacs that wrote abot the lives the lived while the new guys sit on the beaches of Cancun and sip wine and I believe it has had a tremendously bad impact on country music. Am I alone in this belief?

Don't forget George Jones was once given a DUI ticket for riding his lawnmower to the liquor store while intoxicated.

Then how do you explain that Tim McGraw song about Indian Outlaws?
Half Cherokee and Choctaw, my baby she's a chipawa waw she's a one of a kind. You can find me in my wig wam, I'll be beating on my tom tom, pull out my pipe and smoke me some....
Yeah, that's what I thought.

How about comparing a real country singer like Conway Twitty to someone nowadays.

They wrote about subjects they were familiar with. Hemingway wrote masterpieces about revolution and war because he had been there.

Works the same for every genre. Look at old school rock bands full of heroine and coke and women and prison and rehab and look at the pussies making music today.
Same for rap and hiphop.

This is oh so ironic since im sure you can find many a old white man who will tell you that rap is nothing but a bunch of thugs.

Me too but this is a broad subject that cannot be pigeonholed into one simple category and that is why I brought it to the OT. I also don't believe anyone reads the music board so I figured I would flail away here.

So, Keith Urban should start smoking crack.

you are manipulating the data...
- Police say country superstar Randy Travis walked naked into a Texas convenience store to buy cigarettes, touching off a bizarre series of events that ended with him being charged with threatening to shoot a state trooper.

Same reason you'll never see any other singer song writers like Lennon-McCartney, Jagger-Richards, or people that can work/pack out huge venues night after night like Elvis , Tom Jones, Neal Diamond, etc. We are told who our next stars will be by who wins on these karaoke type shows. There's some thing to be said about paying your dues, playing shite-hole bars 325 nights a year, being your own driver, roadie, tech, etc. It's that desire and hunger that fuels those type of artists and their creativity.

Look up some of the crap Johnny Cash was involved in.
