Do old Cartridge games have batteries in them?

like snes and N64 games?
my friend told me that they use a battery to hold the save data, but once the battery goes out you lose your data and can no longer save
is this true?
I've got some games 15+ years old and have yet to encounter this

Yes, old Nintendo cartridges have batteries in them. Years ago some gamer magazine even wrote an article on how to redo the battery in them to give them new life. I imagine with a little bit of looking that could be found. The only bad part is think the batteries are soldered into place, so you will need a cheap solder gun to do the switch, and those can be bought a harbor freight real cheap.

Most N64 saves used flash memory, no batteries.

Yeah they do.
Specifically I remember Pokemon Gold losing my save info because the internal battery died.

Yeah lots of old Game Boy games had internal batteries and your save data would be gone once they died.

I don't get why some of the dumb fricks in here are laughing. It's true.
Pokemon gold/silver is infamous for having the battery die fast (like 5 years) because it has the extra mechanism in the cartridge which keeps time.
