LSU has a contract that MIles should honor and not talk to other schools. Said LSU should tell Miles if this happens again, they will fire him on the spot and bring someone else in to coach LSU.

It is always amazing that folks start making sweeping condemnations without knowing all the facts. I certIainly don"t know them all, but we do know that Long and Miles are long time friends from college, so it isn't surprising that Long might make some preliminary contact with Miles. It should have been pretty obvious to all that there was no serious likelihood that he would leave for Arkansas. It was also pretty obvious that Miles was in line for a raise, already under discussion before the Arkansas story broke. He hasn't had a raise since 2007, his compensation package was low compared to his peers in the current market, and the raise is well within the range of what it should be, and still significantly less than the reported "offer" from Arkansas. The Arkansas issue may have, as Alleva said, sped up the negotiations, but the outcome would have been the same, because there was no real chance Miles was leaving for Arkansas in the first place. The Arkansas interest was merely a distraction.

You wouldn't listen to offers trying to bump your salary 25%? Ok.

some of you idiots are acting like Miles went out searching for a job offer.

Thats a joke. He didnt contact Arky, they called him and made him an offer. Big difference. When you are a winning coach at a top program, others want you. They were willinig to pony up the cash and thought they had a chance so they made the offer. No harm no foul.

Didn't Boston College fire Jagodzinski for interviewing with another team about 5 years ago? That's what came to mind when Miles was talking to Arkansas. Miles should be told this is it. The next time he talks to someone he better leave on his own or he will be fired. He keeps squeezing LSU for raises/extensions and most are tired of it. I guess the real problem is Alleva. LSU needs a real AD that won't roll over at the drop of a hat.

he has ties to that Arky AD, correct?
They've been good friends since college.

there is a tiny bit of validity to that. However, how did Patrick leave CNN for ESPN? How about how he left ESPN for wherever he is now?
Patrick seems like a nice guy, but not very deep or too intelligent.
This guy gets it!!!
Patrick left CNN and ESPN when his contract ran out on both occasions.
No, he doesn't come close to getting it.

I wish they would call more people out for this. What is the point of having a contract?
To the poster who said CLM had ties with the AD...So what. He should have been honest that he had absolutley no intentions of leaving. I also have a problem with Les saying the discussions weren't serious(along those lines) but they had an offer on the table. That makes no sense to me.

That's easy for Patrick to say on the air, but 'without cause firings' tend to be costly...

Someone can offer a person a job but you don't have to seriously consider taking it. That's what I take from what miles said.

My understanding is they were serious, and made a real offer, but he never considered leaving so he wasnt seriously thinking about it.

I thought that Miles played with him at Michigan... not sure about that though. From Les' press conference he said that he did talk to long and then gave him suggestions for other options. Sounds like Les did the stand up thing.
When has Les ever been anything but an honorable man regardless of how you feel about him as a coach? Dan Patrick can go frick himself

It is a hypocritical statement from DP, but I guess it makes for good sports talk radio when you don't have much else to talk about.
