How much vermouth do you prefer in your martini?

I've had them from a number of places that go way overboard.
I don't use any when I make them at home, but I prefer a slight coating on the glass, nothing more.
Also, it's hard to beat the olive juice from the tray/bottle of olives.

Olive juice is all I use at home.

Open vermouth, hold glass next to bottle, softly blow bottle bouquet towards glass.

Very very little but a martini without any just doesn't taste right.
My Preference is Extra Dirty BTW

Agreed. I always laugh when people claim to not want any in a martini. Then it's just a glass of gin (or vodka if you're not a traditionalist).

the only way to make a martini is with ice-cold gin, and a bow in the direction of France.

Pretty much, it just doesn't taste right otherwise.
With zero vermouth it tastes too much like Vodka drowned in olive juice, the vermouth seems to mellow it over just enough to make it smooth. Just a tiny bit though.

Well James Bond always drank a vodka martini.
I like both a good vodka or gin. I prefer a few drops of dry vermouth and I do like either with a few capers. I change garnishes from capers, onions, lemon twist. I like an anchovy stuffed olive in a vodka martini.
Very seldom do I drink them dirty however over the years I've had enough dirty martinis to float Mama Cass.

I'm with Bond...to not be is unAmerican.

I meant that I like mine 'dirty' not 'extra dirty'. I believe 'extra dirty' has no vermouth and it's quite bad.

Well since I sat here and thought about how seldom I drink an actual dirty martini and really couldn't remember the last time I had one
I got off my arse, walked to my bar and made one. I'll sleep well after sipping this little jewel.

fill glass with ice and water...let sit for a couple of minutes/pour it out...add a little vermouth in glass and pour it out...add vodka and enjoy

I prefer a gin martini with about 10-20% dry vermouth.

1/4 oz, swirled around the glass then dumped. Or, if you have a mist sprayer, one spritz in the glass.

Take the glass in hand, pour vermouth in it, spin it around in your hand, toss it out in the sink, you're done.
