What grounds will you arrest them on though? You don't know that it's their dogs, so you don't know who put them there.
I refernece to not being to effectively enforce an ban on dog hunting.
The bad news for the "ethical" dog hunters (i have yet to meet an ethical dog hunter in all my years of running dogs") is that their clock is ticking. It's a dying sport and they have lost the support of the rest of the hunting community. It's just a matter of time.
Here's a idea that might be a good start. All dogs must be registered, tagged and vaccinated. Anyone caught with or releasing dogs with no collar or tag will lose hunting priveleges for one year and be fined $1000 per dog as well be charged with violation of leash laws and/or cruelty to animals. Owner of any collared dog found on private property can be charged $200 per dog and charged with criminal trespassing. Any uncollared dog caught on private property can be dispatched by land owner as a nuisance animal.
There's a problem. It's been a problem for years. THis would be a good start to fixing it. And yes, it's enforcable and has enough teeth to deter the "criminals" from pushing their luck.

Im back.... I disagree with them being in the minority... i dont even check game cams once season starts. We walk to all our stands. Very rarely ride bikes except to pick up deer after the shot.
The dogs arent time to time on my place either...Its 6-8 hrs a day every weekend and holiday.
Majority of the time I see does or yearling being run to death.
I think what upsets me the most about it is this. My dad has parkinson's... Has a few years left to hunt. My nephew (his grandson) has just turned old enough to hunt and loves going with his grandpa to see the deer. When the dogs arent running we consistently see deer around 430 in our plots. After the dogs start running regular, its 520pm if you are lucky to see them at all. It's hard for my dad to go spend quality time with his 5 yr old grandson in a stand when you dont see shite for deer and all you hear is dogs howling.
As I said last night. Its all about respect. I believe dpark and downshift are respectable and manage their dogs on a large tract of land. I think I could come to a good compromise with these type hunters and a ban would not be necessary.
But these arent the types of dog hunters most people here are complaining about.

All I'm reading about is people riding around in trucks on roads, shooting down property lines and roads, and crap like that. I don't see one single person complaining about what I do, other than it has dogs involved and they don't like it.
this is because their seems to be a higher percentage of dog hunters that partake in illegal hunting activities

Deer don't leave an area because of dogs. They merely avoid the dogs and go about their routines as much as possible.
yeah maybe if there are 1-2 dog hunts per year. if you are consistently running dogs through the woods the deer will be just as afraid of dogs as they are of humans, and ultimately if they do not feel secure in an area they (particularly the mature bucks) will move.
ETA: that being said, what really pisses people off is that dogs are running during a still-hunt. it ruins a hunt when you have a bunch of dogs run through your area.

this all comes down to one thing, and that is dogs running deer on other property
if you can keep your dogs off other property, great (although I do not believe you can), but the vast majority of dog hunters do not, and cannot keep their dogs from running deer on other properties. This is where other hunters have a problem. If the dog hunters can't see this, then I don't know what to say.

Since some people hunting with dogs do things illegally, like trespass then we should ban dog hunting.
Just like we should ban guns because some people use them to break the law. Same logic

I agree, but this would be a problem with law enforcement not something new laws would fix. If they arent enforcing the current laws, what makes anyone think new laws or bans will help?

Downshift has a point....how is it any different
Posted on 11/27/12 at 10:50 am to Langston
If it was completely banned, it would help greatly.
A lot of people will not be put in the situation to trespass if they do not run dogs. I like to think that most people do not go out of their way to break the law.

"a few"
every dog hunter I have ever known will admit that half the day is spent finding dogs

They have been running deer in our area of Mississippi ever since the first deer was spotted, about 80 years ago. The deer haven't left yet. All this bitching about dogs ruining deer hunting is stupid and pointless. Coyotes run deer all year long, but deer keep hangning around. I would personally be happiest if everyone traded in their food plots, corn, tree stands and camouflage for a shotgun and a pair of running walkers.

I'm sticking with my stance that those who do not obey current laws will not obey additional laws.
