Because, if they aren't a part of the solution, they could end up with no dog hunting eventually. Dog hunting is a declining way of hunting, and I would hate to see it disappear because they didn't want to help find a way to save it.

No crawfishing done. I stand by that point. Everyone claiming to be responsible, has yet to offer a solution, and has only attacked suggestions on ways to fix it or defended the sport wholly. Responsible dog hunters need to realize, the shady folks are endangering their sport and they need to be a part of the solution, not a blind defender of the sport. Just as any hunter have a responsibility to address poachers or any other activity that harms the sport.

Downshift, can you educate me about hunting with dogs? I've never done it and don't quite understand how it works. Do the dogs just run the deer until their exhausted? Thanks.

It's just like rabbit hunting.
The dogs rarely run the deer for more than a minute or two before they loose them. They're there to jump the deer more than anything.

Dog hunters that just let their dogs go and have no control over them are no fun to hunt around. Most dog hunters are not intelligent enough to use them correctly or train them correctly to be affective. for this reason 95% of dog hunting should be eliminated. One way that we control the dogs is that their are specific dates that they can be run, and they can only be run during the week, this helps not ruin the weekend hunters.
We have several good groups of dog hunters. three factors make them good.
1. They use beagle trailing dogs. This doesnt push the hell out of the deer like some dogs, but it does get them moving around
2. They hunt using horses, this allows them to get ahead of the dogs if needed and turn them if needed. turn the deer, turn the dog
3. GPS TRACKERS ON ALL OF THEM. they know exactly where they all are at all times

No. People get in the woods at daylight in straight lines about 300 yards apart and "take a stand" (sit on a log). Somebody comes an hour or so later and turns some dogs loose. If the dogs run a buck by your stand you shoot it. The only people walking are the ones who keep the dogs in the hunt.
