South Paw Shooters?

I notice that there seem to be a lot if left handed shooters that are right handed in all other activities. I happen to be one of those people. Anyone else fall into that category?
If so, what made it that way for you?
I honestly have no idea what did it for me...I was pretty young when I started shooting a gun and don't remember making the decision to shoot left handed. When I was in high school I started shooting from both sides but my accuracy is a good bit better with my left...but I flip sides if the shot is better situated for a right handed position (either in the deer stand or duck blind).
Just curious if anyone has any experience with this?

Are you left eye dominate? If so that would explain better shooting from the left side...

I am. I know that now but I don't think that I ever knew that when I 1st starting shooting. Unless the natural instinct of eye dominance is that strong to make me unconsciously start shooting a gun from the left side when everyone around me always shot right handed.
I always kinda thought that might have something to do with it but to me that always seemed like the type of thing that someone would have to make a kid aware about after he sucked arse shooting and told them to try the other eye

I'm left eye dominant but right handed. I shoot long guns and bows from the left. I shoot handguns with my right hand. I'm the guy that actually buys left handed bolt action rifles and left side ejecting automatic shotguns.
It sounds like you can shoot pretty effectively from either side; I definitely can not.

My tall lanky 16 year old does everything left handed except for two things. He shoots a bow right handed (rifle left handed) and kicks a ball with his right foot. He said doing those things that way were never a conscious decision.

I started shooting lefty when I was in my 20's. I am left eye dominant. Tried it one day did good and never looked back. Not very hard to learn shooting lefty compared to other activities. Just felt awkward at first.

That's funny....I actually shoot both pistols and bows right handed. And despite being a decent shot with long guns from either side. I'm absolutely horrible with a bow and pistol with my left (which is my more accurate side with long guns).
I only have 2 bolt action guns and oddly enough they are both right handed....because I grew up/learned how to shoot with a little bolt action 22 that was right handed, I never found it awkward to action the bolt. It just became a natural motion for my left hand to slide up the stock and action the bolt with my right hand. And even more odd is the fact despite being a pretty decent shot right handed (not my norm) I find it awkward as hell to action the bolt with my right hand when holding the gun right handed (which is basically the position I end up in after shooting left handed and then sliding my left hand up the gun to action the bolt with my right hand)
Weird how muscle memory and eye dominance develops you as a hunter!

Left eye dominate, right handed. I shoot left handed because the sight picture is just off for me if I try to shoot right handed. This goes for pistols as well, though I usually practice right and left handed.

I eat and shoot and write lefty , but everything else I do from the right side.

I'm left-handed but shoot righty. Also batted righty too. Saw my friends so just followed. One day dad walked out and I was catching the ball with my glove, taking the glove off and throwing with the glove hand. He said wait a minute.

I'm right handed but left eye dominant. I too can shoot off of either shoulder, but I'm better with my left. Although, my claim to fame (in my family anyway) was the day I beat all my cousins in a skeet shoot shooting off of each shoulder, switching between shots. I dont know why I'm left eye dominant

That's funny as shite....I've done the same exact thing a few years ago. Except I didn't alternate each shot. I tore'um up left handed and the switched to the right for the next round and picked up the W that round as well.
For the rest of the afternoon, I sat and watched them shoot while I drank the 2 cases of cold ones that I won from them.

I'm like poppatiger,
LH --> eat, write, shoot (left eye dominant)
RH --> throw, kick, golf clubs
I'm all arse backwards.
But I shoot well.

The only thing I do left handed is shoot long guns and some stuff at work like sewing and accessing. Golf, writing, handguns and bow are right handed. I use my left eye when shooting handguns but its in my right hand.

I am right eye dominant but shoot left handed. I have found that a Burris speed bead helps with the scattergun. I write and throw right handed but shoot gun and bow left handed. This is natural to me because I feel that my right arm is dominant so I want it in the control position as in holding the forearm of a rifle thus controlling the swing or holding a bow and controlling the aim. Pulling the trigger or releasing the string on a bow doesn't require any effort so I use my left hand for this. Does that make sense?

right-handguns=great, sports, weight bearing, bow
left-handguns=ok, long arms, fine things/work
cross-dominant right?!?
