Average breweries that produce an exceptional beer

What are some breweries that (as a whole) you consider pretty average that produce, in what you consider, an exceptional beer?
For me: Saint Arnold's Pumpkinator. Saint Arnold's lineup as a whole (fancy lawnmower, weedwhacker, santo, brown, and Christmas Ale) is pretty average in my opinion. It's nothing too get crazy about or really rave about. But, their Pumpkinator Pumpkin Stout is nothing short of spectacular in my opinion.
Agree/Disagree? Any breweries you'd like to throw out there?

i disagree with that... I mean I like Pumpkinator and all, but I don't consider it exceptional
Sierra Nevada would fit this role for me. Most of what I have had of theirs is "average", or maybe "good", but Hoptimum and Narwhal are fantastic

Had this for the first time saturday. I thought it was pretty good. It wasn't anything astounding, but i enjoyed it. I love pumpkinator, and i here their bishop barrel brews are pretty amazing.
I think St. Arnold's is on an upswing right now.

I'd like to try this one. I've heard good things from you and others in the FBD threads.

I agree. Endeavour, Pumpkinator, Divine Reserve, Bishop's Barrel... you can tell they are trying.

I didn't expect and was very pleasantly suprised

Pumpkinator is the only one I've had out of these four. Saint Arnold's isn't distributed to South Carolina. I had to get my old man to hoard a few Pumpkinators for me and ship them this way. I'll keep my eye out for these when I head back tomorrow for Thanksgiving.

Yep. Unlike the oldest craft brewery in Louisiana. They've mailed it in.

As has been said many times on here, if they would just bottle their select series in bombers then a lot of people's opinions would probably change.

Every once in a while I try a Select and it surprises me.
Back to what OP asked, New Belgium Lips of Faith series has some really good ones in there. Le Terrior comes to mind. As for SN, Torpedo EIPA is an exceptional beer when compared to large-production IPAs.

Which would be the exceptional?? They are all pretty solid IMO.

I hear a lot of folks say that they think Sierra is average. I am one who really likes most of their offerings. Most are very good beers to me. Especially when you get into the Beer Camp, Celebration ale, etc.

I was wondering what was average. Lagunitas kicks arse.

on the topic of St Arnold, I think they are above average...they still have to produce stuff like Weedwacker, Summer Pils and Amber/Brown because people looking for a little variety will by repeat 12 packs of that stuff. Not everyone is going to spend the cash or be daring enough to try pumpkinator. I love SA but don't like PUmkinator...Endeavor is off the chain...Brown is solid...Oktoberfest is solid. Some of their Divines have been ridiculously good.
I like what they do for the most part.

"Average" may sound a little harsh. I wouldn't turn down any of theirs, but it won't be the first thing I reach for.

Fall Fest, Christmas Ale, Mardi Gras Bock, Jockamo, SOS, and Double Dog Vanilla all say hi.

I am not really too big on any of those personally.
