quote:Really? Ever watch week 16 in the NFL? Ever see the last week in the NBA or Major League baseball? Next game means NOTHING to Mora. He's already not winning the BCS, and he's already locked up a spot in the conference championship game. If nothing else, he can rest a bunch of guys to ready them for... whoever, in the REAL game. It just so happens, he also would get to see what one of his potential opponents has in person, and that opponent is the one he's likely to have a better matchup against.
This is one if the stupidest fricking threads Ive ever seen. There is absolutely zero chance Jim Mora for even 1 second thinks about losing next week. And if you think he might, uou are fricking retarded too.

Im not trolling, you fricking tards. Should Georgia rest starters next week against Tech to save up for Bama? Of fricking course not. I hate to play ythis car, but youve never played sports at any sort of high level if you think coaches or players of a 9-2 team--or ANY team--think likethis. They are incapable.

Your argument about the NFL or MLB ( ) is absurd. College football is unique. Every game counts. UCLA wants to go 12-2 and finish ranked top 5-10. They are notgoing to 1) concede a loss to Oregon or 2) forfeit a game (and several spots in the polls) to an instate school that they fricking compete with for recruits. Wake the frick up, tards. I just want to.shake the shite out of your dumb asses.

Georgia has a chance at the national title, UCLA doesn't. The best UCLA can do is get to the Rose Bowl. This first game against Stanford has absolutely no impact on whether or not they obtain that goal.

14-1/13-2 teams in the NFL do it all the time. Teams in the MLB who have clinched HFA do it as well. Same thing in the NBA.
You don't know shite about shite but you steady running your ignorant mouth. Sign off, get a clue, relearn that clue, take a big step back, shove a banana up your arse, and then never come back.

Being that neither team has a shot at the National Championship, UCLA playing to win the PAC 12 is smart. You can't beat Oregon and you get a freebie with Stanford. Lay it down and scout

Keep comparing college football to the NFL ans MLB

what player, especially a senior, wants to just lay down and let a team beat them? they may not win another game if that happens.

If UCLA had a legit shot at a NC or affecting their bowl positioning.. then yes I understand playing every game full strength.
I'm just wondering does this game really affect anything besides the team they play? If not then I don't see the point in risking injury.
UCLA wins they play for the Pac title and Rose Bowl?
UCLA loses they still play for the Pac title and Rose Bowl?
Am I missing anything? If the result is the same then I'm not risking injury. I'm not saying lose on purpose you still try to win, but you be way more cautious. As for what UCLA will do? Of course they will go balls to wall to win every game before them and I respect that.. I respect either choice here.

Gonna be interesting to see the Vegas line on this one!

Off topic, but, 9-6 ring a bell?
Back on topic, Mora is obviously not going to be as upset about a loss, given the circumstances.
And, this will play psychologically. May not factor in the outcome of the game, but I think it would be naive to discard the possibility.

If I had grown up on the West Coast and were a Bruin and could improve my chances of playing in the biggest bowl game west of the Mississippi in my home stadium in my last college game, I'd gladly take it.
The first game against Stanford means precisely dick. The Pac-12 game is what matters.

purposefully losing seems to rarely work out well. i don't want that kinda karma against me, if I'm them.

No one says they can't. It's just they have a less of a chance. Oregon will pull out all the stops because they have faint national title hopes. Stanford doesn't.

And I took a dump earlier. Neither of those has statements have anything to do with UCLA versus Oregon.

You don't have to play to lose. Rotate guys more frequently. Run the same 5-6 plays. Scout. It's not like stanford is terrible or anything. UCLA doesn't have to "try to lose" for stanford to win.

The entire premise of this is stupid. Have y'all never played/coached on a sports team or do you just not remember it very well?
You're basing this on a coach thinking his team is worse than another team. You're basing this on players accepting it's better to lose and not have to face a team because they're better than you.
Players/Coaches don't have the luxury of being removed from the situations like fans do; they think they're better than whoever they're playing every week no matter if it's Stanford, Oregon, or the 1962 Dolphins. If somebody that's a part of that team suggested this I bet they would get cursed out the locker room.
imagine what kind of message that would send to your team? Oh so coach doesn't think we're better than Oregon?
You ALWAYS think you're the best team on the field, and you ALWAYS play to win the game you're playing. PERIOD

UGA still has a prayer of the national title game. and if not the national title game, a BCS game
UCLA has no extra benefit to look towards
