He's in the same league as backs like AP and T Rich were in high school imo. The kid will be the #1 player in America.
I dont think he is nearly as physical as those guys. He can be the #1 guy, but just because they were all #1 rated, doesnt make them equal.
on a given year the #1 RB isnt much different than the #5, or even #10.
And im not trying to slight Fournette. He is a bonafide stud. Maybe after next year if he takes the next step. We'll talk about that then.

But to suggest its because of the Internet, when recruiting has been a big deal online for almost a decade, is just retarded.
WEll that's not the sole reason.
Recruiting has been a big deal for the last decade, but it has only gotten more popular. Fournette was a known commodity as a Freshman. Therefore his hype has been snowballing. He's almost a perfect storm type prospect. Early starter at a sexy position, big city, high profile school...uber talented

Got a text tonight from a friend at aug saying he verbally committed to his teammates and will make the call to les this weekend. Take that FWIW

Cecil the Diesel Collins was the real deal in High School. His film was silly, it was like a grown man playing in a PeeWee league. I remember watching film of his senior with him playing against Crowley(who had a few D1 kiddos in their own right) and he looked liked Bo Jackson in tecmo bowl........

I hope you are right. It seems strange that it would happen after a huge playoff win though....like why would that even be on his mind.

He looks great in Purple and Gold! I really want LF! Even better if he wants us! Geaux Tigers and Geaux Purple Knights. Take the championship!

Yeah I didn't really understand the timing either. But I'm just hoping whatever he told his teammates is true.

Among Louisiana running backs I've seen:
1. Cecil Collins
2. Kevin Faulk
3. Leonard Fournette
4. Lawrence Nixon
5. Warrick Dunn
I could be overlooking some deserving folks, this is just off the top of my head.
A couple of comments:
1. Fournette still has a season to go, plus more games in the post-season, so he could do things to make my perception of him greater than the top two. By the way, I was in Cougar Stadium last night, so I saw him in pretty much his finest hour to date.
2. If you know who Lawrence Nixon is, bonus points. But every major football program plus Rick Pitino knew who he was very well.

Jennings High School, hell of a back. Had more legal trouble than Cecil Collins. Didn't his coaches have to get him out of jail so he could play in the state championship in 93?

I believe Josh Booty still holds that title...

How does Derrick Henry compare to Fournette?

A-Train. Anthony Thomas, winnfield 94-97. One word monster!

Touted? Maybe. I mean we've heard about this kid forever. Brock Berlin was USA Today National Player of the Year though. As far as best actual player, sorry but its Kevin Faulk. Best high school football player I've ever seen and I've seen everyone listed in this thread so far.

I played linebacker in high school against Faulk, Nixon and scrimmaged against Dunn. Dunn was very good but Nixon was better (at least in high school). Nixon had a ton of yards that year and was a monster at Jennings, but he was their whole team. Faulk though was a different story. He played with Ernest Lazzar (sp?) who was a giant. Faulk played quarterback and they ran an early version of the read option. Faulk could not be stopped. At a point in the game he made a long TD run past me like I was standing still. It was the only time in my life I was in awe as a football player.

I agree but AP was the most highly touted RB prospect out of high school in the last 2 decades. He was a beast. I think fournette is close. He's a little bigger than AP and not quite as fast IMO!
