Good call, totally forgot him... you gotta throw in the rest of the Texas Tornados...

Freddy Fender
Augie Meyers
Flaco Jimenez

and this thread would be an absolute failure if we didnt throw in Lloyd Maines... multi-instrumentalist and perhaps greatest pedal steel guitarist...

I got to be there for the Vino With Nino taping with Nino Cooper (DRB) and Ed & Gordy of Band of Heathens. They had a back-patio jam session and I got to see them play "L.A. County Blues". It was AWESOME.

Todd Snider could be thrown in there with the McMurtry/Hayes Carll group. Even though he's from the west coast and lives in Nashville now, he was based out of texas for a while. He straddles the country/folk fence.

Saw him at the Firehouse in Houston probably about 8 or 9 years ago. Dude played for about three hours straight. Still listen to his greatest hits album from time to time.

I saw him at a mall in Houston somewhere when I was 12-13 yrs old. He was just playing by himself in the middle of the mall......this was in the late 1970's.

Waylon Jennings? He was basically a founder of Texas Country. And Willie Nelson too. Technically, you could also say David Allan Coe, although he isn't from Texas. Maybe could add Kris Kristofferson, but he did a little of everything.

Definitely Lyle Lovett. Roger Creager is more modern Texas Country.

Radney Foster is highly underrated....one of my favorites, and puts on a hell of a show. One of my favorite albums by anyone is his live recording:

He is actually playing a free in store show at Cactus records in Houston today at 4:00, and playing the Mucky Duck tonight.

Because Casey Donahew sucks. So does Whiskey Myers.

I'm not really a fan of JAB's music, but his fiddle player and sound engineers are my friends so I go to shows on occasion. I still think Josh is a rip-off of Randy Rogers, but he DOES know how to work a crowd. Not a bad show...I'll probably go see him on Saturday, actually.

Wade and Randy...acoustic or full band? They're so fun to watch together.

Yeah, and his wife's a twat.

I went to a WM show once. It was boring. And the lead guitar used to date my friend and was a total a-hole to her that night, for absolutely no reason. At least be entertaining if you're going to be a dick.

I think it's weird that I saw 1 mention of Kevin Fowler. Good grief.
