I'm just catching up here.

Now you need to recant your Dogfish Head comment.

I don't have an issue with Abita, but I wouldn't buy their beers if other good craft beers were available. I do think their Restoration Ale is a pretty good brew, and I do look forward to the release of Strawberry once spring time gets here. I agree with the previous poster who said it is a gateway brewery.

can't be, German beer styles are fantastic

I agree that most of them are good and have their place but they CAN be a little boring sometimes.

That being said, I thoroughly enjoyed Jacktoberfest this year drinking Spaten Optimator and Oktoberfest.

Compare that to NOLA. They've got a blonde, a brown, a good IPA, a damn good DIPA, a stout, a saison, a wheat ale, a red ale, and a smoked rauchbier. There's not a lager among those 9 beers. And I like every one of them better than anything Abita produces.

I would have assumed the Blonde was a lager. Interesting.

That's not a fair fight.

I could get on board with Abita if they made something remotely close to Optimator.

All of this being said... I've enjoyed Abita Beer dinners in the past. It's not that I don't LIKE the beers that they put out it's that I don't CRAVE them and want to talk about them like other breweries.

well, I mean, it all depends on what it takes to get you going

If you need big DIPAs or RISs, then no

But if you can appreciate a good doppelbock or hefeweizen, then there are plenty of good ones. I think Weihenstephaner Korbinian is one of the best beers I've had, regardless of style.

I'll check that one out if I see it at Calandro's.

I guess with a thousand years of brewing they've had time to get it right

I'd love to try their Vitus, a weizenbock, or Festbier, their Marzen

Sierra Nevada is good, but they are not any more creative than Abita.

Huh? Must be a typo somewhere in that.

Restoration ale followed closly by andygator. The Mardi Gras bock is also pretty good.

I normally buy a sixer of the Mardi Gras Bock just to be festive, but it's a pretty average bock. I like the Abbey Ale, Doubledog, Turbodog, SOS, and Satsuma on warm days out in the field. Amber is also pretty good but I've been favoring Tin Roof's recently. I'm not in the Abita fanclub, nor will I denounce them. I usually have 2-3 of their brews in my fridge

There is a lot of pretentious douchebaggery going on in here. I like all of the craft beers that the beer snobs are discussing but I don't feel the need to belittle a local company and the masses that consume it.

I love bringing people into the fold of better craft beers but heavy critique does not usually work. Beer snobs can be like annoying hipsters - they seek out unusual beers to talk about with other hipsters and belittle the masses that haven't figured it out.

Abita helps people transistion from Bud/Miller to crafts and that is a good thing. Local businees that supports the community is also a good thing.
