One thing I really love about Spurrier but hate about Miles is the candor and personality of Spurrier to Miles.

Anybody else feel this way? I hated darth visor when he was at UF because I thought he was such a cocky arrogant jerk, but honestly that had to do with him putting it to LSU on the reg, but it's really difficult for me to dislike the guy. He just says what's on his mind, gets fired up on the sidelines with the passion of a fan, and does a lot with talent as usual. If there's one thing Miles does that wears me out it's his open ended feel good nothings, fire in the belly, damn strong football team, strong desire, etc. Just once I'd like to hear Les Miles say what's really on his mind. Spurrier says he needs to call better plays. Miles would never be so candid. I know, I know, Miles good, Spurrier bad. You're not a real LSU fan, blah, blah, blah, but I really do get tired of being talked to in feel good silliness like I'm listening to a politician appeal to my emotions. I wish he'd just lose it so I can know he is indeed human afterall.

Let er rip.

Spurrier knows how to call plays. Miles only knows how to call toss sweeps or off tackle runs.

Honestly, I think he's funny, but I wish he'd lose every game for running it up on Lsu all those times

Ummm actually Miles and Spurrier are both very candid and both give great interviews. The correct correlation would be Spurrier/MIles and Saban who has zero personality.

I like Spurrier! He can definitely call plays, and does not look like a deer in the headlights on the sideline. It would be scary to see him with Chavis at LSU...

My team has a fire in the belly. Let's go. NO, I don't get that at all.

I think history will remember Spurrier as one of the best ever. That would be scary.

I don't get it. Miles talks that way because that's who he is. Les can't be more forthcoming and more open because that's how he thinks. He's taciturn. He doesn't want you to now his every thought. He finds strength in encrypting things and not showing his cards. He does it because that's his psychology. It works for him.

I know you're right, but as a fan listening to it, it's about as interesting and informative as nothing.

Maybe a good judge of which personality is more appealing for public consumption is the media. Which coach is used more for various media spots? I watch college football often, but not rabidly. I don't recall seeing Spurrier in many media spots, but maybe I'm only judging by ESPN promos.

I find sideline tantrums to be childish, unprofessional and a terrible example of leadership. I prefer coaches to be more in control of their emotions because the game is more of a chess match than it used to be - though a highly motivated team can certainly use that passion to their advantage to overcome other shortcomings.

I'm sure there's no right or wrong. A preference is probably just reflective of the difference in what motivates different individuals. I always lost respect for leadership figures that yelled and screamed. I need reason and understanding to perform - not clownish behavior.

I'd like to see more of the Miles who almost ate Tracy Wolfson's head at the Tennessee halftime spot, but I like that he doesn't throw our QBs under the media bus, even when the qb deserves it.

If fans were fans for such high browed intellectualism, competitive chess would dwarf college football.

It's a game of passion, and always will be. Sometimes I guess, you just want to see that your coach feels the same frustration that you do and he's human as well.

I agree with this. This "I've got a secret up my sleeve and I'm not going to tell you what it is" is amateurish and makes fans feel like they are being talked down to.

And yet Tom Landry was the most popular coach during his era. Tony Dungy ended up penning a highly successful book (#1 on NYT Best Seller list) called Quiet Strength based on that style.

"Leadership is a matter of having people look at you and gain confidence, seeing how you react. If you're in control, they're in control." ---Tom Landry

Which are not plays?
Over 400 yards of offense without any plays?
You haters are so pathetic

I agree with the OP. Spurrier and the coach of the diatoms both speak a lot of x's and o's whereas Miles speaks about heart, spirit, want!

I like the x's and o's type of interviews better but I sure as heck don't want to pick a coach that way. (not saying you do)

Among the things I watch college foothball to enjoy, coach speak is such an infintesimally small part of them that it hardly even registers.
