assuming they win it all this year

2008: 12-2, SEC runner up and lost in a BCS bowl

2009: 14-0, SEC/National title

2010: 10-3

2011: 12-1, National title

2012: 14-0 SEC/National title (hypothetical)

6 losses in 5 years. 3 national titles.

that has to be one of the more impressive runs, at least in the modern era

As douchey as little Nicky is, he's an amazing college coach, and given the resources of Alabama, has dominated the NCAA.

Even if they don't win this year (which I don't think they will), they'll be the favorite for 2013.

So it could be 7 losses in 7 years and 3 national titles.

Don't forget about Nebraska 1993-1997.

1993: 11-1, 2 point loss in the national title game

1994: 13-0, national title

1995: 12-0, national title, goat team

1996: 11-2, Orange Bowl win

1997: 13-0, national title

60-3 over 5 years.

I don't now...More impressive if they didn't lose to Utah in their 2008 BCS bowl; Texas didn't lose their QB in the 2009 title game and if they went undefeated w/o a second-chance last year.

There's always something with Bama that feels like they get the breaks in winning NTs while some teams have dominated in the past and didn't win the title.

It's impressive but they could also only end up winning 1 sec championship in that time.

One of the best ever. It's a lot , and I mean a lot harder to stay elite now rather than even 25-30 years ago. Teams like Bama used have a strong selling point in that they were usually on tv more than other SEC teams. Not now. Pretty much every SEC team is on tv. Saban's run since 08 is prob top 3-4 runs ever. Oklahoma back in the day ( that crazy win streak, I think like 43 games), Nebraska early to mid 90's and then Bama's recent run.

Saban has found a way to combine his incredible recruiting skills with good position coaches

You would think it would at least be enough to make ESPN forget about how they spent 5 years telling you about USC's "dynasty".

You don't have to go back very far.

USC 2003-2008

7 losses in 6 years.

2003 (12-1) AP Title Win
2004 (13-0) BCS Title Game Win
2005 (12-1) BCS Title Game Loss
2006 (11-2) BCS Win
2007 (11-2) BCS Win
2008 (12-1) BCS Win
