I lurk on reddit, and read reviews from av club.

Modest Mouse followed by The Shins. Both bands put out nothing but great records.

I'll agree that One Hot Minute was not their finest hour, but Californication and ByThe Way were just fantastic. Scar Tissue and Can't Stop are two of my favorite songs. My favorite song wasn't even on an album, so go figure....

Might be the most underrated bands out there. They are phenomenal, even aside from their more mainstream hits

2nd favorite album of theirs. Such a misunderstood album. Navarro added a great, yet different sound. I still listen to that album regularly and if you look at that album track by track, you're looking at roughly 7-8 awesome tracks.

Ty Segall Band
Don't know if Ty Segall was mentioned in this thread but I've recently discovered it and I like what I hear.

Black Keys playing a few songs at Abbey Road. So awesome and one of my favorite rock bands out there right now. So crazy to see them get big like this. Been listening to them for some time now.

have not had a chance to hear the new album... good things?
I think it's great! If you liked Innerspeaker, you will definitely enjoy this one.

The only questionable album RHCP made was maybe One Hot Minute (I blame Navarro). Otherwise they are superb. I think some of you may need to tone down the elitest attitude, just saying.....
I mostly agree with this. But Stadium Arcadium simply had too many songs. They could have cut some out and the album would have been better. I don't much care for the most recent one.
They are fricking awesome though. BSSM is one of my top 10 all time.

I just can't handle Kiedis. He is just not a very good singer and his lyrics are often atrocious. The rest of the band are sick, though. I think they took a huge step back when John left again, though. Josh is a solid replacement, but he is no Frusciante.

What sub-reddits do you browse for music? I haven't found any that I like yet.

I think ripping on RHCP's late career output is pretty silly. It's like arguing the Rolling Stones suck because Tattoo You isn't very good.
Though I like Stadium Arcadium, as it plays like a "thank God John Frusciante isn't dead" album. Which, let's face it, was pretty touch and go for a while.

Nails on a chalkboard... But, I've made my opinion known about RHCP ad nauseum...

In my opinion, John made probably 4 or 5 better albums in his time off from RHCP. Think about it, John Frusciante, Ataxia, The Mars Volta for starters. He also did some fantastic work with Josh, as well as Warpaint. It didn't take him long to realize that getting back into RHCP was only stifling his writing.

I'll agree whole heartedly with you on John. As far as Kiedis' voice, to each his own, I guess. I find it unique and enjoyable, definitely no mistaking its him. By the lyrics being atrocious, I hope you were referring to the way they are sung and not the actual lyrics. If you were referring to the lyrics, are we even talking about the same freaking band? I know it was wayyyyyyy over played on the radio, but to this day the lyrics to Californication just........mind=blown!

They rhyme well and I get the point, but come on. Mind blowing?
As for bad lyrics, see Scar Tissue.
