Olney summarized it with the longest ruled infield fly was around 178 ft, this one was 225. Sorry but that isn't an infield fly.
Why don't the infielders just run into the outfield every damn fly ball and pretend they have it???
I don't think this is the reason the braves lost but its extremely frustrating for something like that to happen in a 1 game win or go home playoff

That's pretty much my thought on it. This isn't missing a bang-bang play at first. This was just an instance of an umpire inserting himself into the game where he had no place or reason for doing so and it's really not forgivable in a game like that. Did that fat turd really think he was protecting the runners? Like they are gonna turn two from left field. Pathetic.
basically. They should change that rule to a post play anyways. Absolutely no reason the defense should benefit from not making a play

Just curious, why have the 3 errors not been mentioned in this thread? Or the stupid baserunning move?
I'm not really saying it was a good call, but there's so much fallback on it by Braves fans that it's more embarassing than throwing bottles on the field. You lost the game because the Braves played like shite.

No one is saying differently bro...
That doesn't change the fact that it was a ridiculously bad call. We will never know what effect that could have had.

Plus people were just tossing shite on the field to voice displeasure. 99% of the stuff was barely past the fences and not directed towards players. They wanted the umpires to force the game to forfeit

It shows where society and people in general are headed, nalthough I am sure most in the stands were also disgusted!

By the way, my son was at the game...his thought is how absurd it was that st Louis did not catch the ball...good grief, he got back under it, then gave way to the outfielder. The ump was trying to protect the runners. He and everyone around him was disgusted and embarrassed by the several hundred aholes who threw things. Had the ball been caught, a great call.

Imagine if this happened in Philly or new York. U might see full blown rioting in the streets. One of the worst calls in sports history.

The call was HORRIBLE. One of the worst I have EVER seen in my 45 years of watching the MLB. BUT the Braves still were down 6-3 for a reason. Self inflicted wounds is what I call it.

Don't get me wrong, I completely agree.
Just unfortunate that a call like that happened when it happened.
With that said, errors, runners LOB, and coaching mistakes is the reason the braves lost.

I grew up watching Dale Murphy and Bob Horner and Phil Niekro..
me also. i have been a braves fan since the 70's.
but let's be honest right now, the fans are very tired of the braves CHOKING better than Jenna Jameson on a johnson.
The braves blew the 91 world series......thanks again charlie leibrandt and they basically blew the 96 one also after going up on the road 2-0 in the series.
we should have 3 right now instead of one.
yeah we got our asses kicked by the jays and yanks in 92 and 99...no complaints from me on those.

Just stop. The ump was not protecting anybody. You aren't going to double up runners on a 225 foot pop up. The ump is an idiot, doesn't mean you have to be too.

That's the thing that makes the one game playoff so bad: one game doesn't decide who the better team is. You were the better team in that game last night, that doesn't show who the better team is overall though, and you know that.
Isn't that true with any playoff in sports no matter how many games each round is? Any given night.

You're missing the point. In 1 game anything can happen. A coin flip would provide just as much justice as playing the game. In a 5-7 game series the fluke plays and bad calls will mostly even out.
