Also, if the Rainmaker becomes good...does Bruce Willis ever go back in time to try to kill him? Does this mean that JGL never has to attempt to kill BW and thus never kills himself?
Bruce Willis could not go back in time because he died before time travel is invented in that timeline.
Your second objection doesn't even make sense. The Bruce Willis looper closes his loop, and the JGL looper doesn't. That in itself shows that any timelines are independent from one another, and any changes would only effect the future of that timeline.

Third, why send them back 30 years to be killed. Just send them back a million years and let them die way back in time.
We have no idea if the Time Machine could even go that far back, considering time travel was in its infancy and outlawed.

Saw this today and was not impressed. It was just an average sci fi, action, thriller type of movie. Certainly nothing new or mind blowing or anything like that. I need to stop buying into these hyped up movies because I'm always disappointed.

Did anyone else think the scene with the guy's limbs disappearing was one of the more disturbing/awesome scenes in the movie?
Without a doubt.
One thing that bothered me, why was Bruce Willis late being sent back? It shouldn't be linear from future to past with him being late getting in the time machine

Maybe it is like Frequency where there is an actual connection between the times and then time passes while the connection is occurring. This allowed the father and son to communicate.

Yup. The guy in charge in the past-future was sent before the rainmaker took charge in the future-future. It seems there is some kind of connection that exists at right around 30 years. Maybe the machines have to be specifically built/calibrated to time travel a certain period of time, and the machines the crime syndicates use are 30 yearish machines.

SPOILER QUESTION
My husband and I wondered why Sid's gunshot wound/graze didn't disappear after JGL shot himself.

Just got back from watching this. I thought it was pretty good but it is a thinking person's movie. I wouldn't be surprised to find people not liking it because they expected something else.
SPOILERS
I wish they would have talked a bit more about how the Rainmaker takes over. I understand he uses his TK powers but I'd like to know more about the process. Even though I enjoyed it I feel like these open ended story lines (like Inception) where you draw your own conclusion are getting a little cliche'.

In movies with time travel, there always seems to be some inconsistencies that could be debated back and forth.
I'm gonna choose to avoid these because I found this movie really enjoyable and entertaining
this.
I thought it was one the best movies i have seen in awhile

Sid was shot before he committed suicide. The only part erased was everything that would have happened after he committed suicide. Everything before then is considered the past then. I could totally have this wrong because you have to think several loops back to make sure you are right.

That's what I was thinking if the cut went away then basically the whole movie woul have too

The only problem with that theory is wasn't Sarah shot too? Her wound disappeared. I think.

Symbolism.
The implication was JGL and BW were in a closed loop which inevitably led to the same outcomes, over and over. They all were. All it took was one looper to end the loop in reverse (kill himself while young to change the fate of everyone).
Plot holes still abound, but it was good.

I was also quite disappointed that they kept showing Bruce Willis' finger on the trigger about to shoot and then flash to JGL and so on...Why didn't JGL just shoot his hand off? That would have made it impossible for BW to get a shot off then and maybe Sarah could have got him separated from the gun before BW was able to overcome the shock and grab it with his left hand. It just seemed weird for him to immediately shoot himself in the chest instead of blowing a hand off.
I immediately thought of this when he stuck the blunderbuss to his chest. Dude could've just shot off his hand or even his trigger and middle fingers.
I enjoyed the movie. I'm seeing a lot of thinking way too hard on some of the questions. The movie did a good job of explaining everything. The only loophole that I could maybe see is why not send the old loopers back to different loopers so they don't have to kill themselves.

why was the Rainmaker closing all the loops in the future?

I'm assuming because in that future, his mother was killed by a looper.

Didn't Sid getting shot happen before JGL killed himself. Regardless of BW disappearing, that still happened.
