I think we're mostly in agreement, H-Town. Mack and Bob both need to bounce, but as an LSU fan I'm okay with them hanging on for another 10 years or so

I still think it sets an unfortunate precedent, though. Maybe the best thing to do would be to simply not renew their contracts, but I don't know how much longer those guys have.

I agree Mack needs to go. But who is OU gonna get that can keep them at this level consistently? They choke in big games, but they're still a top 10-15 team virtually every single year.

Mack did more for Texas than Stoops did for OU. OU's problems in the 90's were acute to bad coaching hires.

Texas' problems were systemic over more than a decade and Mack changed the entire culture. He will leave on his own terms barring a complete program meltdown. OU will eat there own after a couple of 7-5 seasons.

what in the frick are you talking about?

eta: team looked terrible on saturday (my first home game to make it to since i evacuated for gustav in 2008). loss falls equally on the players and coaches, all who appeared to be mildly functioning retarded people at several points throughout the game. hats off to kansas state players and coaches for both an effective game plan and and excellent execution of that game plan.

Hunger is one thing, what they really need is "a want."

I guess you just illustrated why Texas is not on the level of elite programs, if you think a couple of 7-5 seasons is acceptable.

I hope WVU didn't think they were joining some sort of "family" like the SEC. It ain't like that here.

In a weird way I pity the OU fanbase. They're stuck in the horrible state where they are consistently "good" but never good enough to get over the hump. It's hard to ditch a coach who's averaged a little over 10 wins a year. How do you fire that guy and then how do you find someone who wants to take the job knowing that they're basically doomed?

He inherited a team that hadn't had a winning season in the five seasons prior to his arrival, and he has won seven conference championships in his twelve completed seasons. He also has one national title and played for three others. Yeah, they should just be miserable right now.

thank you for the unbiased evaluation. hopefully the point is better taken from a poster without an OU logo next to his name.

The national championship was 12 years ago and they've been dismal in "big" games (you know, the ones that matter like BCS games) since 2003. So yeah, I can understand why they wouldn't be super excited.

Can't feel bad for them. One of the worst fan bases I have ever dealt with (NC in 2003). That includes all my cousins that are huge OU fans but not my uncle who played for them in the 1970s

I went to Bama's home-and-away series with OU in the early 2000s. I also went to our BCSNC against Texas.

Texas fans are infinitely worse. Worst fans I've ever encountered, bar none.
