In this instance, I'd say that "no news is bad news."

So we are talking 3.5 days on the water by now?

It's apples and oranges. That's my point. Either way, I basically HAVE to take an automobile to work, so it is a necessary risk. Taking a yak 3 miles out by yourself is not a necessary risk. It is definitely riskier behavior than driving.

It's probably more of a recovery mission at this point. If he was still alive, he probably would have found his way to SOME structure out there.

I meant like a cross country drive or flight. Lot better chance of a blowout, being in someone's blind spot, etc than a plane crashing

I don't disagree, just trying to be somewhat respectful. I kind of feel bad for the captain that stopped and checked on him. What can you do, though? Snatch him?

I was thinking the same thing. Bad deal. I bet that captain is having all kinds of issues with hindsight, but you can't make a grown man get in your boat if he says he doesn't want help. Especially a stranger.

Some guys are sayin they found his kayak 4 miles south of GI and his PFD was in it. Not sure if it's the truth, but I'm just letting y'all know.

That's no good unless he abandoned ship and climbed up on a rig sans PFD

We'll see. Definitely not the news everyone wanted to hear. There's better info in that link that JimBeam posted on the first page.

Bad news. I have taken mine off in safe waters and then all of a sudden was in really rough waters and no time to get my life vest back on. Just seems like if the water was bad enough the life vest would have fallen out too. Very odd.

Unless it was in the storage box. But that could be BS speculation, so let's not go to much into it.

My wife got some info before she left work. It was realized that Eric was missing from work on Tuesday morning. He had told friends at work that he was going to Grand Isle fishing on Monday and went offshore regularly in the kayak. When he did not show up for work Grand Isle PD was called by his friend at work on Tuesday morning, but GI PD they could not do anything with the info, Ascension PD had to be called because that was where he lived. Ascension said that a missing person’s needed to be missing for 24 hours before anything could be done and recommended that he go to GI to see if his truck was there. The guy from work drove down to Grand Isle and found his truck parked at his normal beach access point. The search did not begin until Tuesday afternoon. My wife said that Eric was an ex Marine and very fit. The kayak was found by a boater outside of the original search grid but was in a grid that was next on the list to be searched. Apparently there are a lot of rigs in the area where it was found and there is a smidgen of hope he pulled himself up on a rig.
