I hope they find him.
What was he doing in the Gulf in a kayak by himself? Is that something people do regularly?

He was probably fishing the surf or caminada pass and got caught in the current and drug out in the gulf

If you got swept out to the gulf, I'd still think you could make it to a platform with ease. That makes me think he fell out..

I' ve seen idiots out at close in rigs out of fourchon..... A buddy drug in two out of that area who couldn't get back in when weather kicked up. These things are for protected waters only never to leave the marsh. Hopefully they find the guy.Hopefully some of you learn from this unfortunate event.

A charter boat captain encountered a kayak fisherman in a red sit-on-top several miles from shore yesterday. The captain spoke with the man who identified himself as "Eric" and asked if the man needed any assistance. "Eric" reportedly told the captain this was his second(?) trip in the kayak. The man assure the captain he was doing fine and they parted ways.

Damn, several of my buddies in the BCKFC have paddled to 3-5 miles out of Fourchon to the closest rigs, only on days when it was super calm. You absolutely must bring a buddy or buddies, and a phone or radio to call for help if necessary. I guess the guy was new to the game. Terrible.
