Berrigan said today the NFL has until noon Thurs. to file any opposition on the NFLPA's TRO or injunction motion to stop bounty suspensions.
A ruling on the appeals hasn't come down yet either.

What does it all MEAN, Basil?

She may feel like the league is dragging arse. If you remember she said she was reluctant to rule before the appeals hearing on the 30th. That has come and gone and players are facing suspensions; suspensions that she feels are harsh, and will face irreparable harm from.
ETA: The NFLPA filed a motion yesterday to get an injunction on the suspensions, so she's asking the NFL to respond to it.

We need someone looking out for the coaches.

Yeah, the "irreparable damage" is about to kick in with the season opening and it looks like the arbitrator appeal isn't going to solve this problem for her in time. She seems inclined to step in if she has to so that's probably what she'll do and this case will go the Star Capps route.

There's no hope for them unless a bombshell comes down and Goodell is fired or quits.

Berrigan said the court doubts negotiaitions would be fruitful, and it's disappointed because it would mean relief for the players.

I guess I really never understood why this is different, other than the coaches don't have a union. If the penalty for the players is too harsh, this certainly applies to the coaches.

So now this means that the NFL will respond at 11:59 tomorrow with something stupid so they can continue to drag the process out.
Posted on 9/5/12 at 11:21 am to sicboy
Because they're employee's and they probably sign away some rights in their contract where as the players collectively bargain their terms.

Yes you do

This isn't about right and wrong or justice, this is about leverage. The players have it, coaches don't.

I don't think the judge is gonna play that. I think she's intent on intervening if she feels like she can.

@SportsLawGuy: Judge Berrigan just ordered NFLPA Bounty counsel to show cause by noon tmrw whether they should be disqualified for conflict of interest
@SportsLawGuy: Judge Berrigan: "it appears to the Ct that there is longstanding acrimony among all of the attorneys representing all of the parties..."
@SportsLawGuy: "that predates these disputes and that the Court believes is contrary to the interests of all four players"
@SportsLawGuy: No secret Kessler battled NFL in CBA negs, collusion case, etc. Judge questioning whether that presents conflict preventing settlement.
@SportsLawGuy: @StephStradley Agreed that it's unusual, but Judge clearly frustrated by lack of settlement talks. Though can't imagine she'd actually DQ.
@SportsLawGuy: No, case goes on, but w/ different lawyers. RT @OwlDat - so if disqualified, is the case then dismissed?

I think we'll see a coaches union within 5 years. It's bullshite that goodell can do basically anything he wants to a coach with absolutely no recourse for the coaches. He could have suspended Payton for life and there's nothing Payton could do about it.
Posted on 9/5/12 at 11:33 am to motorbreath
Well you think they would have some protection from their owners who Goodell works for.

If the attorneys are replaced, does the whole process start over?

This might be a little off topic, but this to me shows how disorganized this league is at the moment.
