Not if coaches decide something else is in the best interest of WINNING games. Odd huh? Winning games and all..

North Texas was never going to beat LSU so winning wasn't anything to be concerned with. Some of you superfans have the tightest panties.

Some wanted to see what Mett could do and hoped it would be a little more wide open. I see nothing wrong with that.

Like dig routes on the deep seem? Slants, outs and fades? Did you watch the game?

i saw one dig route......plenty slants, screens with a sluggo, and a stop n go.....i saw one go and one fade.......none of which were to the EZ. no posts or corners. no intermediate crosses either the way they are meant to be run(unless you call that dig a cross with landry's route he ran)...now i am talking about balls thrown to these routes which is what matters....not necessarily all routes run. hell we cannot scope every damn receiver anyway to see what he has run if the ball is not going to him...you can try though.....not easy....just sayin'

i'll take a W anyway i can get it......we will need to do more against better teams though....hopefully we see more vertical threats next game.

So I don't get it. You've got a guy who "says" he used to be a HS coach that thinks he can do a better job of planning out winning D-1 football strategy than a guy that gets paid 4 mil to do that job. Just how do you get to that point in your head?

I mean, CLM obviously knows a little about football right? Coached in the NFL, played D-1 ball, worked with a lot of good coaches. Has been able to attract some pretty good assistants who respect him enough to want to work with him. He has got enough ability and football acumen to have risen to the pinnacle of his profession...HC at one of the top schools in the country and has one of the best W-L records of any coach. And yet...this "corndawg" dude,...whose genius at coaching HC football obviously went unrecognized and had his career unfairly cut short...this dude thinks he can figure things out better than CLM and his whole staff of professional football coaches! Huh.

So "corndawg" (and the rest of you panty wearing genius's) just how do you get to that point in your head....I'm just dying to know!

I'm waiting on everyone to realize we've had this "vanilla offense"/"saving the playbook" discussion every year and after every game since FREAKING 2008.

You would think it might just sink in that we HAVE A VANILLA OFFENSE after a 50+ game sample.

And in all honesty, we had the same offense with Flynn and Russell, the side passes to the flat, the bubble screens. I posted a stat on here years ago showing this.

The difference with 2005-2007 and now? We had experienced players with bona fide NFL talent at the key positions.

yep and the fact remains most of our passes were short. fine. we did well with those against North texas. lets hit the others now.

I want to see us hit the double flea-flicker hook and ladder, because we might need that against Bama. If we don't practice it in a real game against a directional school then how can we expect it to work against Bama...

i don't know if this has been mentioned on any of these threads but the bubble and the one step slant are just tags on runs. if the single wr has soft coverage with no flat help then the qb pops up and throws a one step slant. since the throw happens so quickly, it is away before the oline can get down field.

on many occasions it was basically the same with the bubble. if the man on the slot is apexed between the slot and the tackle then the qb just pops up and the throws the bubble. wr's are running bubble while the o-line and backs run zone. there may be times when they just call a bubble but mainly they were probably just tagging it with the inside zone.

so what we really did was call a ton of run plays with quick tags on them in case they crowded the box. we probably didn't have as many "called" passes as people think.

not sure i contributed to the conversation but i thought i'd throw my 2 cents in. personally, i like the tags.

edited for grammar

Like it or not, play calling sucks most of the time. This is not a conspiracy, this is our true offense. We have no secret playbook, we barely have a playbook. We went 4 years without an offense and still won most of the games. frick offense, win games and profit.

I'm not a negatiger just curious as to why we refuse to stretch the field, I've gotten to watch a few practices and that sideways offense is what they are doing there as well.... Thoughts?

I'm not either, but get accused of it all the time. I've been wondering the same things as you since Saturday, but apparently if you question anything the coaching staff does you become toxic.

exactly, I love the way you handle some of these guys. They have their asses clenched so tight about everything LSU, it's sad really...no ability for critical thought or analysis.

Need to see Bama play a few more games before anyone can say that. Michigan was not that good of a team.
