Ummm yeah, there is nothing about the Saints defense that is comparable to the Niners D...stop being delusional!

Sproles stats last season: 87 rushes, 603 yards (6.9 YPC- highest in the league I believe), 2 tds
86 receptions, 710 yards, 7 TDs
that's over 1000 yards of offense and 9 TDS
Yea, his impact is really on special teams.

I won't lie I really wanted us to sign Colston but at the same time the QB make the WRs to a large degree so it's a little unfair because obviously Brees is in a different galaxy than Alex Smith.

As usual, the locals' perception of the Saints relative to other teams is amusing, but this is a fairly reasonable thread.
Disagree with DL immensely. The Saints have nothing remotely close to Justin Smith (3rd in DPOY voting), and Sopoaga/McDonald/RJF are half of what allows the beast LB corps to be freed up. In time the LBers (Ahmad Brooks being the wildcard who would have to step up) may be the greatest assemblage of talent at that position since, coincidentally, the Dome Patrol. Fangio has been one lucky SOB. Dunno how the DB is a push either; we aren't elite in the back 4, but the Saints are blegh.
Basically for me the Saints are better at every position group on offense, and the Niners are better at every position group on defense.
If you take out Brees, in non-Saintard land, the Niners clearly have the better roster. He's the one who makes that offense go.

Brees passing to Colston helps, yeah, but Colston is a solid receiver and would have made it anywhere, so it isn't all Brees.

I agree about the DL completely. That being said, if the Saints are unequivocally better on one side of the ball (offense), and San Fran is unequivocally better on the other (defense), how does it work out that "the Niners clearly have the better roster," especially when the Saints have a much bigger advantage at the most important position in the game?
Sounds like someone has a little hometown bias too

I don't agree with RB's the Saints win, like others have said adding Jacobs and LaMichael James to the mix gives the 49er's the edge IMO. Hunter was a solid backup to Gore last year.

oh shite, I completely overlooked that . Idiot moment myself. Regardless, the Saints DO have Brees so whats the point of the hypo? (See #1 of Lester Earl's points)

couple of things:
1) to throw QB out of the equation says enough. Is that the only way you can make an argument that the rosters are near equal? The NFL is a QB league, bottom line. The Saints have the best, the 9'ers have one of the worst.
2)Great offenses are maintained year to year. Through schedule changes, through personnel changes, etc. Defenses are much much harder to keep maintained at an elite level. Why am i saying this? Because the 49'ers player over the head of their personnel. They have a few good players on that D, but for the most part, really benefitted from a perfect storm. The Saints exposed them in the playoffs. Despite committing turnover after turnover, ON THE ROAD, they still almost managed to beat them.
How many teams in the NFL maintain elite DEF's year to year? Pitt? BALT? Maybe NYJ? How many in the NFC?........... So yea, good luck with maintaining your bread and butter going into 2012.

and really, imo, the Saints have a big edge at receiver! Most of the Saints receivers are solid, San Fran not so much, outside Davis you have Crabtree(who actually led the team in receptions last year) and that's it! Sure they have Moss this year, but he's been out of football and we don't know how he's gonna impact them. And Manningham was added also, but I still like The Saints receivers over their's.
the x factor is QB, with Brees being head and shoulders above Smith as noted on here!

How many teams set overall yardage records every year? Good luck repeating that bread and butter?

This thread is filled with fail. "hey let's compare the saints and 49ers, but Beees can't figure into the comparison"
