Little Bill: "So this is supposed to be Ol' Bob here on the cover, Mr. Beauchamp? 'The Duck of Death'?"
Beauchamp: (stammering) "Er...well, it's Duke...(clears throat) 'The Duke of Death''
Little Bill: "Duck, I says."
PS - Not a great flick (like the one I quoted) but was cool to see Eddard and Jon Snow together in "Silent Hill: Revelations" on PPV last night. Er mer gerd ima nerd.

So many good lines in that western. I wonder if Ser Duck would approve of Little Bill's making fun of his name.

Just finished ADwD. Can't wait to read through all this.
I might be more excited about this thread and people's theories than being finished with the books.

I know the feeling

We need a new topic to get this thread rolling again.
I'm going to assume everything has been discussed in this enormous thread, but I think I missed the discussion on the Faith Militant. What role are they going to play in the future? GRRM started setting up their story at the beginning of AFFC. They have to be a big part of the next two books.

Imagine if GRRM was upset with how widely accepted r+l=j is and just made it not true

Well they will fight against Dany for sure. Other that I really have no idea. They're a definite wild card

I know there's been some discussion about who will fight for the Faith in Ceresi's trial. Possibly the Hound. It'll also be interesting to see what kind of role Lancel plays into that as well.

I think that what we are going to see the Faith Militant come into play once the Others become a real and actionable threat. There will be another power struggle between the Lords of the Realm that align themselves with the Seven and those that align themselves with Rhollr in order to combat the Others.
It also creates another major faction in terms of numbers because if the High Septon decides to mobilize his unwashed masses there is the possibility of full on internal riot amongst any noble house that has a septa or septon in residence.
Imagine a secret raven sent throughout the realm directing the Septas and Septons to assassinate high born Westorosi in an attempt to save the faith. The implications are fun to think about.

One problem with that is the maesters handle the ravens.

I'm probably more intrigued about how the Maesters are going to play into this vs. the High Septon and Co.

Come on man, I am sure somewhere somehow a maester said, "Hey Septa blah blah, can you go check to see if any ravens have arrived?"

This. The High Septon will prove to be troublesome, but is not a major player IMO. The Maesters are just way to sneaky. It is said that Maesters throw away their real name, but someone (think Lady Dustin?) says they believe they stay loyal to their houses. Would be a nice twist if all the High Maesters are inclined to one particular house and wreck shite across the realm in order to better serve that particular agenda.

I just find it questionable if the majority of the Maesters are in on it. You've got people like Luwin who even served Theon faithfully, then you got Pycelle who's been bought out by the Lannisters. I just kind of find it hard to believe they could come together and stand behind a single house.

The more I think about it the more I realize that the faith militant wont back any of our major players except for Aegon.
Jon is the old gods/red god depending on how his resurrection comes about
Victarion is of course the drowned god
Dany is a little bit of everything
Aegon was the only one truly raised in the faith of the 7. That could be/will be a major asset for him

Aegon will have the Dornish and Faith behind him to sweep out his enemies in King's Landing. By the end of TWOW, Aegon will sit the Iron Throne.

I think you're right but he won't be there long
Posted on 2/14/13 at 4:16 pm to CottonWasKing
I don't think the Throne will exist at the end of the series. Aegon will be the last king of the seven kingdoms, IMO.
