In one of my re-reads recently I noticed something that I had failed to previously. If Stannis truly favors himself Azor Ahai reborn then he will need undoubtedly need to make Lightbringer more legitimate. As we all know, Lightbringer must make its own heat which it does not currently.
I foresee Mel realizing her mistake about the PtwP and Stannis in an attempt to prove that he is the real deal stabs Selyse with his fake version of Lightbringer. I think this will be his real downfall, not in battle but in madness from his realization he is not the ONE. That just seems more on par with GRRM than Stannis biting it in battle.

I don't think Stannis has truly believed he was Azor Ahai sense the Blackwater

I never got the sense that Stannis ever bought into the AA bit. I think Stannis would use dark magic and religion, even prophecy if it gives him what is his by right-The Iron Throne. I find him quite single-minded in that regard, actually.
Him leaving "Light Bringer" behind in the fire in 'Kings kinda represents his feelings on the matter, IMO.

Y'all this thread has a higher page count than the LSU, LSU, LSU thread on the rant and was started 7 months later...
Thank y'all for making this the most entertaining thread I've ever been a part of. I owe every single one of you degenerate fricks a beer.

I post in here in memory of all the dead/undead characters in ASOIAF. I feel it is my duty to not let their sacrifice be in vain.

I do occasionally, but more on the literature forum. And I generally just lurk there for new author ideas and suggestions. I think I have a little less than 100 posts and I've been a member of that board for about a decade or so.
The lit forum is a really good source for new author ideas though, I'd say at least half if not more of the new fantasy authors I've read came from suggestions on there, and I haven't been steered wrong all that much.
And there are a few legit authors that actually post on that forum occasionally, which is kinda cool.

Yeah, I would guess Ran and company would ban you pretty fast for that.

Hey if they can't joke about aids rape then they're not my kind of people anyway.
Btw have any of y'all read the wheel of time? I'm on the third book right now and it's badass so far. Not as good as ASOIAF at least not yet but great none the less.
As of where I am right now I place it:
ASOIAF
LOTR
WOT

You need to read some Joe Abercrombie, The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch, or Steven Erikson's Malazan Books of the Fallen after you finish WOT.
That being said, WOT is definitely a solid series, though the middle kinda sucks. I found book 1 solid but pretty formulaic, books 2-6 pretty awesome, book 7 was solid but the plot started to slow down, book 8 is meh, books 9 and 10 are horrible, book 11 gets back on track a bit, then Jordan dies. First book (12) by Sanderson was excellent and on par with books 2-6, book 13 was good, and the final book was a decent conclusion.
WOT is well worth reading now that it's finished, but probably not in my top ten fantasy series overall (but probably just outside there).

I definitely need some good fantasy recommendations. I read LOTR when I was young but I never really got into fantasy until I started reading ASOIAF and now I'm hooked. The problem I'm running into though is that the genre is so hit and miss. When a book or series is good its fricking great but when it's bad it's just painful. There is very little middle ground.
Shoot me an email at my username @ gmail with some good recommendations if you don't mind.

The first book was great but it was a straight rip off of Tolkien. I mean the whole book pretty much held LOTR's hand all the way through and that annoyed me. I enjoyed the hell out of it but I couldn't help but mentally point out and laugh about every extremely obvious ripoff. I mean has anyone ever made a character more similar to Aragorn than Lan?
The second book was just flat out amazing. Loved every single minute of it.
I'm about a quarter of the way through book 3 and I can't get near as into it. I want to see rand, Perrin, moraine and Lan. I couldn't give two shits about what egwene is doing nor what the Aes Sedai are doing.

Yeah, that was my thoughts on the first book as well. Way too generic traditional fantasy. And yes, the females suck balls at the beginning of the series. Prepare for a bazillion descriptions of braid pulling and skirt shifting.
But that pretty much sums up Jordan. When the dude was on he's awesome, wrote some of the best battle and fight scenes around, but had a ton of flaws.

His battle scenes are fricking EPIC. I just read the scene where....
SPOILERS FOR THE WHEEL OF TIME!!!!!!
The trollocs attack Rand, Perrin and the Sheinaren's camp. Or the Dragon Reborn's camp I guess I should say. And Perrin going into full on Wolf mode against the Myrdrall and trollocs was fricking amazing. I have to say that he writes better combat scenes than GRRM has ever dreamt of.
The scene where rand dualed the high commander of the sea chan in book 2 was pretty awesome as well. Although that kinda irked me. I mean that guy actually "earned" his Herron marked blade and here rand is with just a few months training and he defeats him? I just think the Ta'veren excuse is used to often. Seems like an easy way out to me
