quote:Where? All I have seen is media reports (like GG and USA Today) reporting that. Where did you see Bahnsen issue that statement?
Bahnsen is the AD's compliance officer. He said that Mathieu is "permanently ineligible." Whether you call that a statement or an announcement, he said it.

Right. My point being that Vincent did not contradict anything from LSU.
Vincent did not contradict anything LSU said bc he is the only person who really is supposed to speak for LSU in these matters.

I do get why GG is a little pissy. He did who do diligence and actually got a quote from a high ranking person @ LSU prob is that that person cannot speak for the school. Herb Vincent can and did. I don't think GG made that up, but too bad from him its NOT the official word from LSU.
I just think he wanted a quote one way or the other so badly and so quickly that he didn't care who it came from as long as it was someone "official" in the athletic dept. The fact that he just ran with that comment from someone who obviously didn't know what was going on is what makes it reckless journalism.

yea reckless on gg's part and probably go bo in some hot water with herb if he gave a comment he wasn't suppose to give.

Way too much drama going on for a guy that has failed 3 or 4 drug tests, melts down on twitter daily, and talks shite after every play.
He can do his growing up somewhere else

Dumb just dumb
Why not let him try again at LSU after he sits out a year?

Guilbeau is twisting people's words and lying straight up. Now national media people are running with glen guilbeau's bullshite and he thinks it's funny.
Check out this complete mess:
Case in point:
ESPN.com reported early Monday that Mathieu, distraught over being booted from the Tigers, was considering returning to LSU to remain a student and sit out this season as a football player while hoping to be reinstated to play football next year.
“If Tyrann chooses to return to LSU as a student he can do that,” LSU head coach Les Miles said. “We are not speculating on anything beyond that.”
However, LSU’s senior associate athletic director for compliance, Bo Bahnsen, told Gannett Louisiana that “he’s permanently ineligible to play football at LSU. That’s definite. That’s what was said Friday.”
Bahnsen also said, regarding Mathieu’s reported desire to one day return to the team, that “he’s not accurate if he thinks that.”
But LSU officials later said that Bahnsen’s quotes were taken out of context and that “LSU did NOT announce this (that Mathieu was permanently ineligible).”
Senior associate athletic director Herb Vincent said on his Twitter account that: “To clarify: Tyrann Mathieu has the option to go to LSU as a student. LSU is not speculating on his football future.”
Meanwhile, The Clarion-Ledger in Jackson, Miss., reported that Jackson State was interested in talking to Mathieu but was denied permission to talk to him by LSU.
Even though Mathieu is no longer with the Tigers, other schools still have to request permission from LSU before personally contacting him.

If GG went on sports center and said that Les, Joe, herb were manipulating the policy then that is hack reporting.
How would GG know that if he doesn't know Mathieu's offense?

I have to believe Bo Bahnsen did not leave work a very happy man today. Either GG misquoted him, which is possible but I think less likely, or he told that to GG, then the higher ups got word of it, and he had to deal with them this afternoon.

Exactly. He should be banned. That was a direct attack against LSU IMO

Guilbeau also likes to use quotes from last weeks press conference and try to fit it into the now.
Obviously things have changed since last week. Guilbeau is a total hack.

Not to mention his most egregious act of the day. Baselessly accusing TM7 of trying to hold Miles and LSU hostage by threatening to go to Bama if they don't reinstate him:
quote:
@LSUBeatTweet TYRANN MATHIEU UPDATE: I'm wondering if Mathieu is threatening to transfer to rival SEC school (BAMA) in 2013, making LSU officials renege.
quote:
TYRANN TRANSFER CONT: "Oh you can come back in 2013 if you're thinking of going to Bama. We'll fix it."
And he's still going with the accusations against Miles and Alleva changing the drug policy to favor Mathieu:
quote:
MORE CONFUSION: Unless LSU changes its mind, its drug policy or manipulates its drug policy, Tyrann Mathieu is done playing football at LSU.

I'm fine with any of those happening.

those are pretty direct attacks on les miles, joe alleva and herb vincent.
and then of course a attack on a kid that is trying to get his life right and you make a dirty accusation like that. The worst part is tm7 can't respond to bullshite like that because the last thing he needs to do is go on the attack and lose his cool. so gg is free to make things up about a defenseless kid that needs help and support right now.
espn should have aired those childish tweets about black mailing

He is convinced because someone used the term "permanent", and the term permanent is mentioned as a consequence after a 4th test. He is rambling on and on about changing the policy if Mathieu is allowed back, but he hasn't mentioned that no one ever said it was the 4th test.

Despite his dismissal - Mathieu did his part on the field the past few seasons and brought a lot of positive attention to LSU through his production and persona.
I don't think LSU wants to deny him the opportunity to continue his work towards getting his degree since had he not been an athlete - this wouldn't be an issue. He's done more than enough to get his remaining credits paid for IMO.
I'm a TCU grad and I know there are very few athletes that leave early to pursue their careers in sports (mostly baseball players, and a few "hardship" types for football). I know that if they've represented the university well - TCU does what it can to ensure the individual can continue towards earning their degree there.
Most recent example being RB Ed Wesley who declared for the supplemental draft after spring, didn't get picked, but signed as a UDFA with the Cowboys He had to quit school so he could work (even if that meant regular, non-football employment) to provide for his mother who suffers from severe, debilitating rheumatoid arthritis. He's about 3 semesters shy of his degree right now and it's paid for if he doesn't make it in the pros.
Just like I'm pretty sure LSU has figured out a way to cover D Byrd's current enrollment in some form or fashion.
ETA:
As far as him being a student at LSU for a year and facing basically a "one year suspension" and returning for one year after that... It may depend on an NCAA and not a University ruling. IDK.

honestly this guy needs to move on and play football somewhere else. if he couldnt keep his nose clean while playing ball at one of the best programs in the country, what makes you think he will all of a sudden keep clean when he has all of this free time?
he better try an get to a different program and meet some new people and work his arse off to try and impress some nfl scouts.
