I envision the Vilma meeting going something like that scene in Fight Club where they pull the police chief into the bathroom and threaten to cut off his balls. "Do not frick with us" Go JV

Exactly. They know they have nothing. They are trying to settle for a reduced to make it go away and come out saying see. I told you so. They had bounties. That's why he took a punishment.

Saints owner Tom Benson has privately expressed his displeasure with Goodell on the severity of the sanctions that hit the franchise, including a year-long suspension of head coach Sean Payton and an eight-game suspension of general manager Mickey Loomis, according to sources.

Don't accept a suspension for something you didn't do. This shows the NFL's weakness, take them to court. They are scared

Payton should have sued as well

I wouldn't blame Vilma if he accepted the settlement. That gets him back on the field for half of the season. He doesn't have many years left in him and I could understand if he backed down settled for a half season this year.
But I would also completely understand if he stood on his principles and told Goodell to frick off.

If Vilma doesn't take the deal it is the ultimate F U to Goodell. Goodell is trying to wiggle out of this, I hope Vilma doesn't take the bait. Clear your name, tarnish his.

This could really start turning some of the public opinion on the Saints. I'd let the offer sit out there a while, let the talking heads get a hold to it, then turn it down.
Put out a statement questioning why Goodell would offer to settle...
Does he not care about player safety?

Anybody else find it hilarious he was banging the drum about how awful the "scandal" was this weekend while trying to cut a deal with JV behind the scenes? Roger's a pussy.

SF22, I was just thinking the same thing. Sportscenter supposed to be updating story now live.

If Goodell's even thinking about a settlement, its for a reason. I say frick him, see you in court.
That's my thinking. If the NFL had all the evidence that they claim to have, no way would they be offering to reduce his suspension by 8 games. JMO but I feel there is a reason the NFL doesn't want it to go to court

The only reason anything is ever settled out of court is because one of the parties doesn't like their chances.
The NFL doesn't want this to be decided in court because they know they don't have shite to make it hold up. frick Goodell.

Werder says Vilma "likes his position" and isn't agreeing to any deal yet.

Goodell's lawyers must have told him youre going to lose this case, cut a deal now.

Look at the precedent this is setting. Now anytime a player is suspended they can go file a civil suit against Roger and get it reduced. That is what the NFL is risking by offering this deal. They must KNOW they are going to lose in court.
