My favorite comment from the ESPN article:

Havent you read the cba....it CLEARLY states....pg 4, paragraph 3....THE COMMISIONER NEVER LIES.

He needs to keep fighting until the bitter end.
Hypothetically, lets say he gets a clean slate. Full 16 games. No suspension...
His job isnt there for his taking. Curtis Lofton is a much younger version of J. Vilma. Not to mention he has a serious injury he is still rehabbing back.
I am rooting for Vilma to get his suspension cut, and to get his name cleared, but honestly in football playing terms, and the impact he has on the field at this point, is in my opininon minimal.

I would think Lofton in the middle and Vilma on the outside. Slide Vilma in the middle on obvious passing downs.
I hope whatever comes of this, is decided quickly. I'm glad Goodell is looking like a dumbass, but we are close to the season and this needs to be resolved before then.

I think this signifies that Goodell is scared of this coming to court. It's a show of weakness. Hold strong Vilma and wipe his a$$ in court!

Vilma on the outside with Lofton in the middle and Hawthorne on the other side is about the most optimal LB lineup to me

I mean i guess they could, but it doesnt make sense. Why would you put your clearly better Middle into the outside? I love Vilma, i am just sayin i dont think he takes over Lofton.

didn't look at all pages but think this is the latest-
Jonathan Vilma, Saints LB, has no NFL settlement offer

Lofton looked more explosive last night in a preseason game than Vilma has since 2009 IMO. Lofton is in the middle, to me that's settled no matter what happens with Vilma

Yeah he does. He didn't accept so now they are backtracking trying to put out as many reports as they can that no offer was made.

Goodell could be concerned about two things:
1.) His evidence sucks (which so far has proven to be the case), and
2.) If this case goes to a jury trial in the City of New Orleans it will be VERY difficult for the court to have an impartial jury. In other words, JV staaaaacked, Goodell fuuuuuuucked.
Whatever JV decides to do, I hope it results in the reduction or elimination of his suspension, a vindication of his reputation and a domino effect occurs where Payton, Loomis and Vitt's suspensions get reduced.

EXACTLY.
Vilma needs to continue this fight. This shows a major chink in the Goodell armour. He needs to fight this man until he rolls into a fetal position and screams, " ok i fricking made it up! I dont want every retired player suing the shite out of the NFL. I am sorry. Please forgive me. Al suspensions drop. You get hot cheeer leaders and 3 1st round pics next year. I am resigning now. "

So Schefter, Mortensen, AND Werder were all wrong, meaning all of ESPN's key NFL insiders were wrong?
ESPN SC Video Link
ETA: He hasn't received an offer yet, but as the title indicates, there are talks into a settlement proposal.
Which Mort may have overstated:
quote:
Chris Mortensen ?@mortreport Sources say league has proposed to reduce Jonathan Vilma's one-year suspension to 8 games but no agreement yet. Talks ongoing.

Wasn't there supposed to be a court ruling on this by now?
Posted on 8/6/12 at 8:32 am to sicboy
It was said that a ruling could come down by the 8/3, but that didn't happen.
