We're going to lose a lot on defense and most of the OL. Next year could be pretty tough.

I think it's too far away to think about it.

10-2 for 2013 would be very solid. Lot of young players developing next year.

I s'pose we can still think about it but I agree with your sentiments. Just too many unknowns now. I think Sam & Mingo are already projected 1st rd so I expect them to leave. Reid has to be close to 1st rd already. Everyone else is TBD.

If Mett returns, 2013. After that, you'll have young QBs so take a step back.

It's hard to say. We don't know yet who will develop into solid players and future starters this year. I would imagine that 2013 we could see 10 or 11 wins and maybe have a shot the year after, but it's too early to tell. Depends on who comes back and even then we could have a surprise...I didn't expect us to be in the NC last year

We will still be loaded, just not with returning starters at those named positions.

If Mett returns, we are fine at db and dl...so the OL is the ?

But we would be fine with great backs and qb which always helps a new line....just because starters are leaving, that doesn't leave us without experience.....but it always seems to be the last group to mature....not sure of schedule early next year

I heard Reid wants to stay 4 years so he can get a degree...the guy is real high on academics and is very smart...he's gonna kill it in the NFL no matter when he leaves...

That would be tough, probably looking at a 10 win season with the losses we'll have:

RB - Probably lose a couple here. I doubt all the juniors are going to stick around to split time and carries.
WR - Lose Shep
TE - Lose Clement
OL - Lose everyone but La'el

DE - Lose Mingo and Sam
DT - Lose Logan and Downs
DB - Lose Reid, Simon, possibly Mathieu

K - Lose Alleman

If Mett leaves, our offense will probably be pretty bad. We'll have a shaky QB with an inexperienced offensive line. Even with Mett it'll be tough to avoid two losses with those losses.

The defense will be fine in time, but that's a lot of pass rush and secondary to lose. There's two reasons why we are so tough defensively:

1. We get a pretty significant pass rush and generate a lot of sacks/QBH/TFL

2. When we take risks upfront or don't get to the QB, we have a stout secondary to pick up the slack.

Contending for a title in 2013 would be Miles' greatest achievement outside of the 05 season IMO.

who cares right now, just be excited about this year. but to answer your question LSU has a lot of depth on the dl and ol, loaded at rb, and have some young stud wr's. last years lb class could be the best LSU's had in a very long time, then add this years recruiting class, and you have to think LSU will be a top 5 team for a very long time.

There are 100 other threads focusing on this year.

What I or other fans focus on will not have an effect on what the current players focus on n

Feel free to try another thread, but this one is looking past this year.

I'd say 2014 or 2015.

2013 will be a good year, just not sure about NC caliber...

Excluding OOC matchups. I think it really depends on where other teams are at in development as well. Last year Bama had a very good defense with a number of SRs if I recall and a few very good Jrs. This year they will contend, but LSU is a much more veteran team.

Who knows what it will be like when BCS goes to a playoff format. That introduces tough matchups and always possibilities for key injuries.
