There are so many talented Jr's on this team. Hard to believe some won't leave early but likewise hard to believe all would leave early.
The areas that could be wiped-out are:
OL: Lose Longeran, Dworacyzk, and Hurst. Could lose all but LaEl; I really think Williford will be back. Faulk is 50-50 IMO.
DL: Will lose Downs/Edwards. Likely to lose Sam/Mingo. Bennie is 50/50.
DBs: Could lose the entire secondary and then again all may return. Biggest uncertainty of who leaves early is here.
QB: Mett certainly hinted that he would return. But again if he's being coached well wouldn't expect him to say otherwise at this point.

IMO, our ability to contend next year will hinge on Mett's return. With him back, along with nearly all the skill players, our offense will be one of the best in the country. Yeah I know the OL will lose a ton but Collins will slide out to LT, Fanika will take over at RG, Porter to center (biggest question mark IMO), Williford will return at LG and either Davenport or one of a couple of very talented youngsters will man RT. Line a step back from this year but still as talented as Bama will be next year since they will lose as much as we do.
That leaves defense. I think the d-line will be fine. Freak and Ego at tackle and lots of young talent at end puts us on par with most of the SEC. LB should be much improved as some of the young talent starts to assert itself. DB is where the problem will be if Reid, Mathieu and Simon all leave as is certainly possible. If Loston comes back and Eugene continues to develop safety should be ok but CB will depend heavily on a couple of this years freshman and perhaps even a couple of 2013 CB's to develop enough to compete in the SEC as starters. We shall see, the talent will be there, not sure if it will be able to offset the inexperience.

Great, succinct, (and accurate IMO) analysis - wished I'd written it.

I really don't think we'll have as many early entries as people are predicting.

Next season is a toss up. If Mett comes back we have a legit shot. It really depends on who develops this season. I worry about Bama. They are young this year, but next year will be all them.
Possible Defense next year includes"
Rasco Freak Ego Hunter
Minter Tahj Barrow
Simon Jalen Loston Eugene.
Thats a pretty solid starting Defense.

Congratulations! I think you are the first person on the rant to ever agree with my opinion! On second thought...maybe thats not a good thing for YOU.

Offense:
Oline will take a hit. However we are loaded there.
Mett, the RB stables, Almost all our WR. Looks good there too. Next year we will still have a legit shot.

you never know.
we should enjoy this season.
LSU starts off #1.
No SEC team has started off #1 and won the natty in the modern era, since 1980.
The three top teams include an SEC west opponent.
